We had a very long winter. Even now on this 15th day of May snow hangs in small icy patches in the shaded spots and along the creek and wooded areas. Here is a poem I wrote some years ago I want to share with all of you.
Plants lie dormant, awaiting birth;
Springing from the dampened earth.
Bursting forth from their pod;
Slowly plants push through the sod.
Lacy foliage gracefully abounds;
Waking up spring time sounds.
Butterflies bright in sunny spring;
Birds returning on the wing.
Daffodills nodding gold;
Violets scent, sweet and bold.
Buttercups, waxy bright;
For-get-me-nots, gardner delight.
Sunrise red on cool March morn;
Little lambs, newly born.
The stillness of April's peace;
Shattered by honking of returned geese.
Then comes azure, sunny May;
Laughter of children hard at play.
In the early month of June;
Turtle doves coo and croon.
Chaparral and wild rose blooms;
Over the lake the sound of loons.
Spring has awakened at last
Winter has finally passed.
