Quotes for the Day:
"It is not enough to be compassionate. You must act. There are two aspects to action. One is to overcome the distortions and afflictions of your own mind, that is, in terms of calming and eventually dispelling anger. This is action out of compassion. The other is more social, more public. When something needs to be done in the world to rectify the wrongs, if one is really concerned with benefitting others, one needs to be engaged, involved." ~ His Holiness the Dalain Lama
"The first peace, which is the most important,
is that which comes within the souls of people
when they realize their relationship,
their oneness, with the universe and all its powers,
and when they realize that at the center
of the universe dwells Wakan-Taka (the Great Spirit),
and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.
This is the real peace, and the others are but reflections of this.
The second peace is that which is made between two individuals,
and the third is that which is made between two nations.
But above all you should understand that there can never
be peace between nations until there is known that true peace,
which, as I have often said, is within the souls of men." ~ Black Elk
Thoughts for the Day:
How important is Peace to you? Do you feel that this is a vital need within our society? What do you do in your daily life to foster Peace, either within your self or your community? Do you ever stop to wonder how many people in the world are hoping you find Peace, and that you will help to spread it to others? Every day I take at least one moment to send these thoughts out into the world, picturing it like a colorful mist riding the winds, seeking the lives of people I will likely never know... Peace, Enlightenment, Compassion, Action, and of course Laughter. I wish a great deal for my fellow beings, but somedays... I'm the one who needs the support and I know... somewhere out there is some stranger wishing and hoping that I find things like Peace when I need it the most. Today... I'll be thinking of you...
Idle Question of the Day:
If your snooze button charged you a dollare per use, would you still use it?
