Do you think having a public option for health care will be beneficial for the country. Personally, I think it will force the cost of both health care and insurance to go down. When there is more competition, care and cost become the deciding factors when people chose to spend their money. What do you think and why?

1) Setting UCRs. Standards for these are best established by large plans.
2) Standardization of forms (saving significant administrative cost).
3) Small business coverage option (they pay the highest premiums because of smaller groups) with the potential of true, good coverage (there are some excellent small business plans but there are also a lot of of very bad ones).
4) True accessibility to individuals.
5) A way to demonstrate underwriting and payment standards expected of insurers.
big pharma and the insurance industry don't like it as they won't be able to charge what they want and keep thier pockets well-lined. it has to happen!
If it ran as an alternative to a commercial plan, in competition everyone would have the option to get insurance under the government plan or the insurance companies various plans. It could be paid just like any other insurance payment and not require a big raise in taxes at all.
I'm a big believer in the KISS formula. The SS bill and another passed in s2008 set the foudation. All they have to do is develop the structure.
