What are the best ones you've read? I would like to broaden my horizons to some of these types of books!

I read a lot of horror books.
Some of my favorites ever were:
"Vampire$" by John Steakley
"Phantoms" by Dean Koontz
I don't read a lot of sci-fi or fantasy, but a WONDERFUL series of books that has aspects of BOTH of those genre would be the "Otherland" series by Tad Williams.
Book 1: City of Golden Shadow
Book 2: River of Blue Fire
Book 3: Mountain of Black Glass
Book 4: Sea of Silver Light
"Tailchaser's Song" also by Tad Williams, is also a good book.
I am a chicken, I don't read horror books nor do I watch horror movies.
Lois Mcmaster Bujold wrote a series of books about Miles Vorkosigan. It is soft sci-fi but it is character driven. I really enjoyed this series she is a wonderful writer.
I also read the series of books from Stephenie Meyer that started out with the book Twilight. The first book was recently made into a movie. I enjoyed all three books in that series. This series is about vampires and werewolves. I thought it was very well done.
One series I liked the best that I recently read was started with the first book called The lightning thief by Rick Riordan. That series has greek mythology in it and you just get so caught up in the action, you don't want to put the book down.
I have never read a book on wicca.
I've always felt that Ms. Bujold's Miles VorKosigan was the best-realized superhero-as-cripple ever written... AND he was rollicking good fun!
I read some fantasy, I really enjoyed Louise Cooper's Indego series. I also liked Glenn Cook's Black Company books. I enjoy Christine Feehan's books about Carpatheans, I believe it's the "Dark" series. Carpatheans good vampire types, if they kill by taking blood then they do turn into a vampire and become evil. Great series!
I also enjoy Dean Kootz, who writes books that I would call thrillers but on the edge of horror. Otherwise I enjoy mystries to the max. My husband reads SciFi and Fantasy books all the time and very little else.
not much into reading these types...........
Any of the hobbit books were good, the movies don't do them justice. Any CS lewis is good to, he really makes you THINK
I am usually the subject of horror books. LOL!
In the genre' of "hard" SF, you c,ant beat David Weber, .avid White, Eric Flynt for modern writers. You couldn't go wrong with Heinlein or Assimov for old-line wonders. Somewhere in there, you've got to toss Jerry Pournelle, and, of course, there are our Gather friends and SF writers Pat Whitaker and Walker Bennett,
I enjoy Piers Anthony, Koontz, King, Clive Barker, and the old classics, as Chuck mentioned. If you want to get into a real epic read, I would recommend King's "Dark Tower Series". The first one is a little rough, but the rest of the seven book series is wonderful. Anthony's "On a Pale Horse" series is pretty good as well.
And for the "vampire " contingent, You still can't beat Ann Rice's "Vampire Chronicles"....her series about the Mayflower Witches is good as well.
I read mostly fantasy. I love reading Terry Brooks, David Eddings, Mercedes Lackey, Tamora Pierce, Katherine Kurtz, and Robin McKinley.
No.
I read sci-fi and fantasy mostly. I especially like anthologies. Two I really like so far is The Green Man: Tales from the Mythic Forest and Firebird Anthology. One of my favorite publishers of the genres is Tor Fantasy. I been reading books by them for a while now. I also like listening to audio books and podcasts. If you would like to listen to stories, One I like is Escape Pod, which is sci-fi podcasts and also check out podiobooks too.
Have you tried Tanith Lee's horror/sci fi?
or Ursula K. LeGuin's sci fi/fantasy?
or Sheri Tepper's?
sorry, i am no help
I only read the twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. It was not that good. Movie is better, I think.
I read SF almost exclusively, but will venture into fantasy a la L. Sprague DeCamp and Fletcher Pratt or Piers Anthony. I never got into horror much except the Howard Phillips Lovecraft and Edgar Poe type. Modern Vampire and "horror" is waay too formulaic for my taste.
I havent rted a book in so long I forget what the last one was
My favorite books are mystery books. I also read fantasy book, mostly by Terry Goodkind. I also like western novels, old cowboy novels (who Knew). A neighbor got me started on the western novels and I like them, they are also a fast read.
I recommend Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Ursula K Leguin, C S Lewis, and J R R Tolkien - those aqre my favorites from when I was a teenager...
Has any one read Charles DeLint? I love every thing he's ever done. Stephen King another one I can re read over and over. Also, Jane Lindskold she has a series about wolves (not were) that is really great. I have so many books I need to buy a new house just so I can have more room. :o)
Charles DeLint is on my "to read" list. I also love Stephen King. I had never heard of Jane Lindskold - she sounds interesting.
There are a bunch of book groups on here you can join - some of them even give away free books to be reviewed.
Now I liked the Twilight series that I read with my girls, but definitely the movie was better. Your best bet is anything by Stephen King.
I just read the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs and I love it! It starts with a book called "Moon Called"
I also REALLY ENJOY Kim Harrison's books - read "Dead Witch Walking" You Will Be Hooked!
try laurell k hamilton she has the Anita blake vampire hunter books and Meridtith gentry ones about the fay people a bit on the steamy side but stil worth it. David eddings has a few good ones out there.
