I watched a special the other day about a Mongolian Camel herding family. Boring you say, not even. It was a very insiteful look into the life of people I would never meet or know. It was spring and the female camels were all giving birth except one. The camel was in labour for over two days, and then when the calf did decide to come it would not come out all the way. The husband and wife and one of the elders had to help pull it out. It was a beautiful white male. At first they thoyght it was dead, not moving or breathing. The elder started biting the calfs ear to stimulate it(no I didn't understand that). Finally it starting breathing and moving. The mother in the meantime tried to move away, alas she wanted nothing to do with her son. The family tried everything to get her to succle the calf, even tying her hind legs together so she would not push him away with her leg. Nothing worked, after a few days they said that they needed to do a ceremony(I forget the name of it) and they needed a violinist. The violinist was sent for, and when he came the brought the female to a small culvert by the tent. The wife of the herder started to stroke the camel and then started singing a song. The violinist started to play, it was beautiful. Then they brought the calf and started singing and playing again. An amzing thing happened just then the camel started to cry, yes cry, huge tears ran down her cheeks and she was cooing. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life. They brought the baby next to her and she let him start succling. Was it the singing and music(I like to believe so) or something else.
I will never forget that sight as long as I live.
