She was a lot of work from the time she was just a pup. She was born on my bed on one of my favorite quilts while my boyfriend watched. I was at work. That should have given me the first clue. Needless to say the quilt was ruined and the bed will never be the same. She was the last to be born, the runt of the 10 pup litter.
The vet said that she propbally was too late to get the antibodies that the other pups got. She had a severe case of puppy cradle cap. A kind of staph infection and she was on antibiotics for over a month and required special shampoo and grooming every day. It would take me an hour or so daily. She would fall asleep curled up on my lap as I combed the crusties out of her coat. All of her hair fell out. She looked so pitiful. She made a great recovery though. The vet was so pleased with her over all health when he spayed her. She sure is a beauty, now. A big clumbsy loveable goof ball. She still thinks that she is a lap dog. She is in complete denial that she is not a human. She sleeps with her head on my pillow, despite the fact that I scold her for being on my bed at least 100 times a day.
Earlier this summer she had a bite of somekind that ended up turning into a flesh eating infection that sent her to surgery. She had 35 staples, and coutless stitches that repaired her topside where the vet excised 2 large flaps, about 4" by 6". It was quite an ordeal.
We have two dogs, Wrinkle and her Mom, Tiny. Just a few days ago, they broke out of the house, a sport that they really enjoy. They do this any chance they get. Usually they are gone for a few hours, or six, and come home barely able to walk. Often covered in river water or manure.
Well, Wrinkle had an encounter with a nasty porcupine. She had nearly 200 quills. You would have thought that she would have learned last time she tangled with one.
We love our dogs, just like our kids, well almost.
When you are saying your prayers say a prayer that she will soon settle down. I don't know how much more I can take. LOL.
