The older I get ..the more in tune with the surrounding world I become. There are things people take for granted and they shouldn't.
I have 2 cats inside, care for 4 ferral cats outside(they adopted us), squirrels that come up to my back door and a few birds that seem to wait for me ... and 2 dogs. I sometimes feel like Snow White and my forrest friends! But what amazes me alot these days is...I think all of these creatures care for me back(in one way or another).
When I start to pull in my driveway..the outside cats seem to come running from everywhere- like Anthony running thru the streets of Boston on Prince Spaghetti day. Meowing and rubbing up by my legs. The dogs rush me like Dino rushing Fred...and when I come on here..Mushy lays in front of the puter and puts her tiny head in my hand, lays on her back and kinda folds her paws..purring and having that look of ecstacy. When she does this..the feeling I get is such a good one...like hey..she really loves me!!
Every night I make five plates of dinner..one for me, Brit and husband..and one for Sadie and Baxter...and they look for it! (cats have their own little setup going)
Oreo will rub herself on my hands as I sleep ..I guess to wake me up.
lol..ok I am drifting here to the ranty parts!!
I get mad when I hear of people abusing animals ..or they say ..it is just an animal..technically so are we! Getting back to the older I get..I now realize that this earth isn't just ours....it also belongs to all the other species on it also. We should have been stewards of the earth..not it's destroyers.
Everytime I see a new project knocking down a forrest or wooden area...it irritates me. Knock down some piece of junk ,a non fixable place. If it has abestos..abate it, the other species need to have some place to live too.
Another thing that gets me.... when people say certain groups of animals are "over populated"! They are going into residential areas and attacking humans and destroying property..... Let's cut down their numbers...hey..take a look...humans are way over populated. I wouldn't want some one cutting down our numbers the way they cut down theirs. The reason they are interacting so much is that some builder destroyed their natural habitat and moved us in! ps..how many stripmalls does Long Island need..so many are empty and then they go build another one.
ok.......back to the personal stuff!~!
My girls tease me ..that these animals get away with so much more than they ever would have! ...and it's true! She said that since I have kept the cats in my room it looks destroyed..well she's right..and I don't care...they are happy little buggers!
Now...there is no need for any nastiness, name calling...and whatevers...I know not everyone agrees with my views...and it is what it is...my view.

Hubby has been complaing about the raccoons getting into our yard. He's concerned for the dogs. But I point out...there is nowhere for them to go. He said, "They can go to the woods!" What woods? THe small patch of trees behind our house is the closest thign to a forest around here!
People need to move over a little, and make room for the creatures who share this planet with us! No new building should be built until all the empty ones are filled. Empty stores should be torn down and parks built if they are left empty for so long.
Some room for natures needs to be made on Mother Earth before we all suffocate under asphalt.
If your husband is worried about the dogs, you may want to make sure that you're dogs have had their rabies shots and also for distemper. I agree with you though. We need to have room for wildlife.
Our boys have have all their shots. This is even the time of year they go for their boosters (or whatever you call it for dogs). He's just overly paranoid that our mutt, who likes to chase things, might actually catch one of them one day. Which I doubt, because they are over the back fence before the dogs gets down the steps good.
Our cats and dogs have their rabies shots...the outside ferrals I don't know if anyone has done any capture and release(doubt it)
agreed!
yes!
thanks...I am thinking of the song with the line....they paved over paradise and put up a parking lot
Good for you Donna.
I hope they read the sign and helps before there is no green left anyplace.
Let's get rid of some people first. Just kidding. Maybe.
lol..Shannon!!
Elaine..we need the builders to understand that they should use the "used' properties!
You make some good points...
I've discovered that one of the biggest predators of deer in Michigan is cars. Every time we go on the expressway, we see deer laying by the side of the road.
I only have my one dog...but, she is spoiled rotten. I also hate to hear of abused animals (or children) and living in the heart of deer country...I have had to adjust to the fact that they hunt the deer here. There are so many, and they cause so many accidents, that I do understand why they want to get rid of some of them-but, I still hate to think of it.
I know..we have alot of deer on Long Island and every once an awhile ...you hear of some wild event that happened...it is still sad for all involved.
yeah we're in denial that we're overpopulated. Le sigh
Good rant, Donna. Progress isn't progress when it destroys the small amount of nature we have left.
Amen Donna!!!
