Wow. I knew that hummingbirds were fighters, but didn't know they would fight other types of birds. Guess with the feeder involved, it doesn't matter at all what kind of bird.

That is so funny. I had hummingbirds attack me when I was in Costa Rica, and there was a whole mob of them then.....I think I got too close to a favorite bush or something.

Sophie they are agressive little things but I've never known them to attack people. Maybe it was the color or print of your shirt and they liked it. ;)

Jeff, put out jelly in a little cup and that will attract them. OR a hummingbird feeder. lol

Lynn I saw them on the feeder last year but not for very long. I figured they were just out of the jelly we put out for them. This time they are almost on it as much as they are the jelly. I think we're going to get another hummingbird feeder. I don't want them to run off my hummers. :(

That is so neat Lynn. I haven't seen any orioles in person, just photos. I have seen hummers dive bomb other birds though....

Never Jax? We have 6 here this year at least. We've seen 6 at the feeder and in the trees waiting their turn so we know we have that many for sure. Then when their babies are born they'll bring them for a while. They all disappear for a month or so then come back in late summer before migrating south.

I was wearing a class shirt, and it was this bright fuchsia pink color. I wasn't the only one they were diving so maybe it had to do with our shirts...didn't think about that before.

you can get feeders designed for orioles too and special food that would make them happy

They go for the sweet stuff Priscilla. We put out jelly and oranges for them anyway. The nectar you buy at the store is sweet water with coloring. We don't buy that for them or the hummingbirds. It's too expensive and can cause the hummingbirds to get a fungus that clogs their beaks. So I just make my own. The hummingbirds and orioles seem perfectly happy with it. 4 (sugar) to 1 (water) if anyone wants to make their own. I boil it for a few minutes then let it cool before adding it to the feeders.

I've never seen an oriole here in Southern Nevada, but the sparrows and finches go after my hummingbird feeder sometimes. I have birdfeeders all around my yard - I love watching the birds and hearing their excited chirps...... and I LOVE your view, by the way!

I was out at my mother-in-law's yesterday and there was a male and a female oriole at various times on the hummingbird feeder. They must like the sweet water. Leah had the camera, so I didn't get the picture.
