Let My Pen Ink

Here I sit dark and dreary, frankly
Quite a load of malarkey, blankly
Comes an idea, a word, a last stand
No battle talk has sketches of wounds
My arsenal, island filled wih noons'
Surrounded by what, where, with and sand

Develop with me, in solitude
Your voice, my voice, the air is talking
Silently we etch in our missed plan

Positives knocking, choice, freedom, doors
Ah the smooth and awkward, dancing floors
Neckties, bowties, experience lists
Individual stories to share
Time may act the part, devil may care
Only photographs left, for that wished

Word, what are the visions to replay?
Bits, snippets, color coding the way
Thinking about tomorrow today
Time moves like a speed skater, but might
On thin ice, determine to slow down
This moment, gray bones, amazing light

Vanity, surface apparitions
Here is the now of my preference
Sunshine and shadows come to pass
Playfully smiles warm my spirit
Laughter and learning goading Angels
Thank you on my mind all of the time

Glad feelings well, are high as sadness
Let my pen, ink happy holidays
Given this hope for you, friend, reader

I had/have an viral ear infection and have had a lot of sleep. This poem somewhat feels like a dream to me. Thank you John. I do feel virtual and I know my wife will want me to put gas in her car after she gets home. It's a Thursday ritual I look forward to.

This poem starts with a humorous riff on the Raven to give us a clever correlate for despondency, and then takes off past the speaker´s struggle to write into a realm of ¨gray bones, amazing light¨ ( astounding juxtaposition, William!) Again, your themes seem to be about emotional states and how to move through them with a light touch--as Charlie Chaplin put it, ¨Smile though your heart is breaking¨. You do, and you move us, the readers, with you.

The first 3 sentences describes what a writer may feel when their muse runs away. (alas,I know THAT feeling well) The last 3 gives Hope. You are in fine form, as usual, William, ill or no. Hope you are feeling better. :)

William, you got me thinking hard with this one. Thanks, we all need to think hard once in a while.

Starting with the reference to Poe and "The Raven" you managed to set a "dark and dreary" scene. This seems to be a very honest, albeit depressing, assessment of how real ife goes for the true pessimist.

I thought for a moment you were about to quote the Raven, Perhaps the "Flight of the Albatross" I really didnt mind English, but hated having to study poems I did not choose. I think for 50 years we were all made to memorize "Water, Water every where, water,water every where and all the boards to shrink, Water , water, everywhere and not a drop to drink.
Now just tell me what that did in real life to get me a job or take care of husband, house and babies. LOL.
Just like it didnt keep you from having to gas up the car. LOL.

It was a very fun poem. Pleasantly unwinding from top to bottom. I have a cold and an infection in my eye ... couldn't sleep and got up at 3AM and again at 4AM and stayed up.
Since I went to bed after midnight I'm pouring down coffee to stay up :)
Maybe I will begin to write poetry again in a dreamy sleepy state ... that is the hope I got at the end of your poem. :)
When you said you didn't feel well, I thought about how much water has flown by since that fateful day you had 'didn't feel well' not that long ago. I'm happy over and over again that you're back.
