My Morning Rant~chat

I can certainly understand where you are coming from. I have a relative who can't afford his mortgage every month, yet he smokes 2 packs a day and sends his kids to private schools. This just drives me in sane. Some people have some really screwed up priorities.

Spam! That's what it is!

Call me cold hearted but unless it is from one of my favorites, someone needing prayers or positive energy sent their way for healing a sick loved one or content that genuinely interests me I just delete delete delete! LOL

I will also comment back to anyone who comments to me and the same number of comments they give me!!! It might take me a while to get around to doing it but I approve all my comments and won't approve them until i have returned them!!!LOL

Good rant though. I hate it when people play on other's sympathies yet they are wasting their resources. I know someone who whines that they never have any money and they can't afford to let their kids play sports or do any activities but yet they get every new dvd released and always seem to make it to festivals and conferences and season passes to amusement park EVERY YEAR. If you are WASTING your money on NON ESSENTIALS then don't freaking whine about not having any!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have even offered to pay for their kids to have an activity or two but they refused stating they didn't want to invest the time. How sad for those kids. They are going to grow up with their priorities just as screwed up and be just as self centered. I pray that they don't breed anymore!~
and yes i realize i sound like a bitch, but if you can't raise your kids and invest time and energy and love into them, then don't freaking have them!!!!!!!!!!! USe a condom people!

We do without a lot of personal entertainment things so that we can keep our kids in as many activities as they want to try. It is our choice to spend that money so we don't whine about it. We just take joy in our kids happiness and in each other and our quiet time at home together in the evenings when they go to bed. We are happy and thankful for what we do have and try to make more but don't fight or whine over it when it doesn' t happen!!!!! LOL I don't even email people to look at my stuff unless it is something I am really really proud of or unless I need prayers for someone I care about!!!

Try not to let it bother you too much, people will always feel they are just "entitled" to things without having to do anything to earn them. People will always feel they are more deserving then those who have less and several people will do nothing to help others who actually are needy! Until that changes I really don't see other things changing anytime soon either!

OH my they dont want to invest the time!! What horrible parents, i went threw girl scouts, boy scouts, 4-h. I cant see other parents not doing things like sports or what ever their kids want to do

Hmmmm, I understand your rant. My ex says he has no money for child support but last weekend when my daughter was there, she called me and told me that he a new laptop. Personally, if we were that tight on money, enough to be worried whether we were going to get to eat or not, I would have the internet cancelled. Duh.

I TOTALLY agree with you Angela and yes it is Spam!! The first email I saw this AM was from one who also never ever comments on my stuff but wants ME to read their stuff.....how is 'your stuff' any better than 'my stuff'!! (I don't know if that sounds exactly the way I wanted it to sound)! LOL If my family needed to eat and I had no $$$ I do not think I would be interested in a new computer!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate those spam e-mails. I usually don't care what they are for, they get deleted, unless I am familiar with the sender, know their situation, and actually care about what they are going through. That may sound mean, but if it's not someone I know pretty well, sure I feel sorry if your Aunt is dieing but really, what business is it of mine and do you really think your aunt would want 100s of people that hardly know you knowing about her bad health?

I understand where you're coming from too. While I need a new pc myself, right now i'm more concerned with other stuff. I comment to people who comment to me, but if I can see someone really is in need i'll gonzo comment on their stuff...but if it's someone who constantly does it I usually don't.

oh the bad health thing gets me too~ The oh feel sorry for me because I have this or that.
I have health issues and so do several of my family members which I would never tell anyone online about let alone use it to get page view/money. I just see that as wrong. But I have never been on who looks for sympathy either, Id rather someone comment because they want to not because they feel they have to or I am doomed

I have no problem hitting delete, delete, delete. I believe I got an email from the same sender begging for help with points. Then I see another post - getting a new computer, and then yet another post about some fancy cigs. Crazy!

I am with you 100%, I'm not going to comment because someone begs me to - I don't care what the reason is. Now, I do have a few connections that are in college and I try to get all the comments I can to them.

Now, that I'm done saying all that, I have one thing left to say...... I don't feel good and I'm hungry..... please comment on my pictures. LOL KIDDING!

I get multiple emails a day from the same few people. In a day I can get 40 emails, most of the duplicate stuff, the 'please come look at my posts' stuff, which when I get them each day for a week, I do delete them because I have friends who I WANT to comment on and have limited time, so I'd rather spend my time on Gather supporting my friends whom I know, then trying to check out the articles and pictures of someone who just seems to spam. A good rant Angela, and right on target today!

Yup! It's definitely spam. I know several folks here on Gather who are my friends and who have money and health problems, and I've never gotten a single mass email from any of them. One artist I know occasionally lets people know (in an article, not with a mass email) that some of her paintings are available at a discount for friends so she can get next month's rent paid, but that's not spam or begging for points - she's offering something that she worked on and created for sale. But none of them have ever spammed or gone point whoring or begging for money.

I can certainly understand and got those very same ones! I ended up disconnecting from several people for that very reason!

I just went through my inbox and deleted all the spam messages. I had 50 emails and now I have 4. Hmm.

Oh Roy I just hate that word "point whore" I am always shocked when i see that one someones article. Why in the word do people want to call themselves that is beyond me.

I don't bother checking my mail. I haven't checked it in months and there are too many (OVER 1500) to navigate through. I figure I will find an article/picture some other way if I want to see it.

Jaye, I have to check my email there is usually some contest going on in groups and if i dont check the emails i will miss them, I just hate having to deal with emails like the one i got this morning

I usually only open emails from my groups and ones that are clearly private messages (from someone I know). Otherwise, it most likely gets deleted.

Anyone repeatedly sending out mass emails usually gets blocked.

I find articles through the feeds, by comment stalking my connections and through the explore page.

I also find some articles through the sidebar ("You Might Also Like").

Those begging for comments posts just get deleted. These people seem to spend most of their time sending out these mass emails but never viewing or commenting on other people's posts. Kimber- you do not sound cold hearted or like a bitch but instead rational, intelligent and caring.

Being curious, I searched for a new article about someone getting a new computer. Oh, wow, her computer is almost 5 years old and even if it 'works great' she wants an upgrade. LOL!!!
I'm glad to say I've never been one of her connections. I get maybe one e-mail a day. *sniff* either I'm not popular or I have the right 'friends' who don't come around begging for attention. ;o)
Yeah, I have personal problems, too, but I choose not to bring those to gather with me.

If I get SPAM from a connection, I delete the first one. If I continue to get SPAM from them, I block them so I will not get anymore of them.....

lol I just wish i had time to sit around and play Sims, you know if she stopped playing Sims maybe she could comment on people stuff and make a few friends that are willing to comment back. I though about sending her an email to come read this but then id be spamming. Its sad that she can take the time to spam me but not drop by to see what im doing

if it were just spam i don't think it would have bothered me as much as the my family need to eat, when she is buying a computer and smokes

I don't like these types of emails either. If a person genuinely wants others to read their stuff, they should have the courtesy to do the same first. I find that most articles I read due to mass emails rarely ever get reciprocated. If I notice a bunch of 'read me' articles in my inbox from the same person I just block the sender.

I don't like those emails, either. If I get an email, I want it to be a person who has something to say TO ME, not 10,000 other people. I generally make it so I don't get those emails any more. And you're right, they never comment on my stuff. That's okay, because other people do. I comment on things I'm interested in. So if you get a comment from me, it will usually be a "real" comment. Same with email. If you get an email from me, I have something to say to YOU.

I figured out who you are talking about. I think she should make friends with that other one and they can starve together. LOL

I did a search too, to find the article. Strange priorities for sure. I don't believe I've ever seen an article here bragging about a cigarette.

I'm with you on this. I don't usually get them though. That's what the "report spam" , delete and block buttons are for and I use them.

I agree with you, i myself am not doing well. I have a hand me down computer and share an internet account with my daughter. I am using my "Gather Money" to go in my savings, most likely to pay for hear this winter.

I haven't however sent out emails begging for help, i see it like this, if i want the points I have to earn them. Thus I am here viewing your rant. A great rant at that!

I never e-mail anyone to read anything I have posted, if someone sees smonthing I posted and wants to comment on it they can if they don't want to...no worries it is fine by me.

I don't even read my Gather e-mail. There are over 5000 in there I think, but I just ignore it. I don't blame you for needing to rant. If you were low on cash, why would you buy cigarettes which, in the long run will cause you to have health problems which will cost you money? Der-te-Der

If your family actually needs to eat... there are a lot better ways of making that happen than sitting at home on your computer

I thougth of you today. I checked my email and saw one about someone getting fired. So I thought that I would check it out. The first thing I notice was a big red SPAM box at the top. I thought hmm - why would this article be spam - that was until the end when I read -please help me get my 3000 points for the month - I only have 921 points and need the gift cards now more than ever. UGH! If you would have left the last comment out I would have felt bad. But not now.

I just found an article by the person that sent you the email i hope you forwared it to gather as spam, someone flagged their article too LOL. Its not the first time this person has pleaded for views

Hi Angela -- just popping in to say that I completely agree with this article!

I don't read emails unless it is about a friends health etc. I read from those selected to allow all others get deleted. If you want to email me feel free to just don't send mass mailings or try and promote yourself . I love mail though lol

Some people need to get their priorities in order.

Angela, those mails bug me as well, and from what I hear they are against the site terms. Kevin has said tha sending a mail asking to drop by your content is okay, but saying I need the money for _____ come view my stuff and help me is against the rules.

I think that a bit of common sense would have told them to keep mum about the PC purchase and the cigarettes. PLUS the fact that they haven't come by your content only further irritates. No one should expect someone to help if they haven't helped the person they are asking first.

Too many mails begging me to look at their stuff and I just block them. I have over 7,000 comments to return and I can't be bothered with those sorts of mails on a regular basis. ESPECIALLY if that person doesn't bother to drop by my content.

If they DO drop by my content, then I'll get to them anyway, so the mail isn't needed. I'm just slow about returning comments since I'm not online as much now that Gideon's in school.

Eating and a new computer really works. I just got a new one last year and I already need another one. Hopefully I won't make the same mistakes on the next one. lol

I have another gather friend who is also recieving this sort of an email. I guess either I am not connected with that person, nor do I wanna be, or I am deleting the emails as they come in, which I do quite often as I am limited on time to spend at gather as it is.
I think these types of emails are outrageous. I do count on gather pts to get birthday/Christmas gifts, but I don't require gather pts to feed my children. Do ya wanna know why?
CUz I work 24/7 most times to do that myself. I figure I brought these kids into this world they are my responsibility not anyone elses.

I rarely get those emails and certainly understand why it upsets you. Most of the time if they are from someone I don't know or hasn't commented on my stuff, then I just delete them. I do get emails from various "broadcasting" groups and sometimes I read them and sometimes I don't (depending on the time restraints I have).

I don't look at Gather email. It is always SPAM or something annoying.

oh man, don't get me started on how screwed up some people's priorities are. I go to Walmart and usually I go to the self check out, but sometimes the self check out lines are longer than the other lines, so I go to those other lines. This one time I'm waiting behind this woman who is checking out grocery items. She's paying with food stamps or WIC, not sure which. Anyway, I'm watching, because I have nothing else to do. She has extensions in her hair, long fake manicured nails, and a cell phone on which she is talking the entire time. Her clothes are all designer brand. I'm thinking to myself "How in the world does she get food stamps or WIC and yet can afford to buy all of that stuff"?
Now, I know where my tax money is going, and by the time I get up there to check out, I'm fuming.

I agree with Andrea, I see lots of people saying that they have no money for food, but they have designer clothes and nicer cars than I drive. I had a woman driving around in some kind of sports car begging for money one time. I also had a guy asking for change for a cup of coffee or a cigarette. I can't believe he even asked.

I don't mine an occasional e-mail now and then, but some people use it to announce EVERYTHING they publish. I delete those right away. I usually only read the ones from my "favorites" as someone said before.

I would have reported it as spam as well, unless it's someone who comments on my stuff. I hate it when people ask for my comments and then don't return the favor. I hope you don't get to many more of those emails.
