My doggie is a lemon!

I love my two year old golden retriever, but he is a lemon.  If he were a car, I'd return him. 

First, he has a bad hip.  We had him operated on, but if he does too much, it will go out.  Another trip to the vet for medication. 

Then, he gets ear infections.  They have to put him to sleep to check his ears, and it costs plenty for more medications and the vet trips.

He also gets skin infections if he gets too hot.  Now, this I could understand, but he never goes outside except to go do his business which only gets done a couple of times a day, and then he cries likes an abandoned baby if we don't let him right in.

Lastly, he weighs 117 pounds.  That's right!  A dog that is supposed to weigh 70 pounds weighs almost as much as I do.

Oh, I forgot, he has a cowlick on his head that resembles a handle on small purse.

Now, one would think he's not a full breed.  Well, I bought him from a highly reputable breeder who uses her dogs for commercials and television.  He is beautiful.  He's just a lemon.

Anyone know how to make hairy lemonade?

Let him keep you warm when it is cold rather than using an afghan (dogs are good at that, and he sounds big enough to do the job). Retrievers are prone to hip trouble, ear infections, etc ... but they just want to be loved.

Aww! My golden looks the part, but she sure lacks the "common sense" intelligence that retreivers are supposed to have.

My mom's golden has the skin infections, but it's his age--about 15 now, I think.

I love them both anyway!

My dog had a ear infection problem too. Its a pain and I feel bad for her. The other problem we have with her is she is stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid honestly.

Do they have lemon laws for dogs??? You probably couldn't return him, you'd just hate yourself for doing it. That BARF diet sounds interesting.

My girl not only had the skin problems, but she had allergies too.

Get this... She was allergic to certain grasses, certain tree bark, and the most hilarious... cats! Yes, my dog was allergic to my cat, literally LOL.

Aw, that's not nice. Hope he didn't read this. :) I have a Golden and he is wonderful. He does get ear infections all the time. I am fortunate that he will let me clean his ears. I can't afford to run him to the vet all the time for this. I have found that mixing vinegar and a little water together and cleaning his ears with that helps. Don't use rubbing alcohol. The vet told me my vinegar solution was good. That is a bummer about the hip, though. Poor thing.

He needs to be put on a diet right away, the extra weight is not good for his hip or heart. Allergies could cause skin problems, you should get him checked for that.

My parents claim that I'm a lemon... haha. First it was the knee problems. 10 knee surgeries later, I now have problems with my other joints. Plus I have migraines. And other issues. So I get what you're saying about the dog.

Sorry it's a lemon, but i'm sure you love it a lot! :D

He is the best dog in the world. A neighbor of mine has two the same age. He says they're going through their terrible twos. Not mine! He's an angel. He's a lemon angel.

Too bad about the hip thing. A lot of breeds are prone to hip dysplasia. Some breeders screen their dams and sires for dysplasia. Sounds like a loveable guy, though!

sounds like my kind of animal....i always fall in love with the ones that are not so perfect.
the golden retriever is a beautiful dog and susceptible to hip conditions. bet you love him to death, I know i would. i had irish setters that also are prone to the same conditions.
