I must admit I'm trying to turn back the clock
So I sat down in innocence and promptly forgot
As I drifted past the daydreams into nothingness
And the self that I knew suddenly ceased to exist
For there was no shadow beneath the exit sign
Just an expanse of gossamer left to unwind
And all of the certainties seemed tangled and bent
With directional signs of my terse predicament
And terra firma seemingly dangled on a string
With no clue apparent, the net closed around me
One step into paradise seemed like a parking lot
And since I lost my spot, one part simply forgot
The mixed up jingle jangles and stop lights up ahead
Some shouted out warnings as I just sped ahead
Sirens in the distance yet I heard the rubber screech
And pretense became unstable on my own two feet
Spinning spinning goes the wheel where it stops I'll find out
And all the tests were run to erase any doubt
Kings, queens and soldiers offered patchwork quilt displays
And clothed me in these blankets while talking of today
So I asked about tomorrow and they said these sands
Have walls that I must break down with a daily can
I thought their proposition had a secret code
But as the days wore out I found it was my soul
I lay awake dreaming whatever could not be
The etchings I had gathered have less reality
Like a visage softly fading in the sunset hour
Powers that I lost sit in an ivory tower
With toys left on the chopping block I sense disarray
As I try to turn back the clock in these dark days
Waiting to exclaim, explain and adapt to change
Just because I couldn't stop to find my yesterday

"I thought their proposition had a secret code
But as the days wore out I found it was my soul"
Have walls that I must break down with a daily can"
This so well captures the fight against walls that do not seem to exist
but nevertheless hinder all progress.
I love this poem!
I am so grateful you are well on your way to fulfilling all of this line!
Awesome poetry, William!
And clothed me in these blankets while talking of today"
This speaks to me of patching up something broken temporarliy until you can find a more permanent fix.
I´m amazed again how you are taking this traumatic experience you have just undergone, William, and spinning pure gold from it. You are really an example to all artists and writers out there of a talent that won´t let itself be crushed, but instead, walks placidly through the wreckage surveying the good it has done his soul. God keep you, and keep you writing!
In this poem I am especially impressed with the final stanza. You really hit at the heart of the pain you must feel
I lay awake dreaming whatever could not be
The etchings I had gathered have less reality
Like a visage softly fading in the sunset hour
Powers that I lost sit in an ivory tower
and in the same breath speak of explanation and adaptation.
As I try to turn back the clock in these dark days
Waiting to exclaim, explain and adapt to change
These recent writings or yours are keen insight into your situation, and I might guess excellent therapy and growth for you as well. Keep writing!
Yet another excellent example of working despite adversities and finding your way back from your perils. Amazing poem.
God continues to bless you... i love you...
