Photo Shoot With A Grasshopper. (Photo Essay)

Some bugs are simply terrified of us and our big, scary cameras. Some, like this little grasshopper, seem as intrigued with us and our cameras as we are with them.

I was at a cemetery (Spiritland) investigating reports of a haunting connected to serial killer Ed Gein when I spotted this fella.

I've attempted to ID this fella, but I'm not having much luck at the time of publishing. Anyone have an ID? He's pretty neat.

I had been taking photos of statues and flowers when I spotted this guy sitting on some silk flowers.

At first I didn't get too close as I was sure like most grasshoppers it'd fly off if I did.


I got a bit braver once I saw how tolerant it was to me and the camera.


I'm fascinated by the red marking on it's back.


As you can see he posed nice for me and even allowed me to photograph several angles of his body.




Getting braver yet I tried a shot directly in it's face sure it'd fly off.


Amazed I snapped more photos. Doesn't he look like he's grinning? LOL


Okay one more shot before I go.


When I got up I expected it to hop off as I was towering over it. I walked off and it still did not move much. Wow.

All photos taken with an HP Photosmart M425 camera. No editing done aside from cropping for details. All photos taken last year. We still are in EARLY Spring here and there's only ladybugs and mosquitoes out here now. Most of these photos have yet to be published to Gather.
