Well, Saturday morning we noticed Buckwheat was not acting like Buckwheat and discovered there were two 'holes' on the left side of his jaw, one was deeper than the other and was bleeding. My husband thought he had been bitten by a snake and it really appeared to look like that. We got him to our vet and upon our vet conducting his examination he discovered his left 'fang' tooth was sticking straight out from the inside of his mouth (the tooth had cut to the outside of his mouth). We wanted very much to save his tooth so the vet advised us he could put him to sleep and pull the tooth back into place and wire it to his other teeth. We left him there for his little surgery and the vet advised us he would call us after his surgery for an update! About three hours later we received our phone call......Buckwheat was out of his surgery and in recovery. Our vet begin to inform us that while performing the surgery he noticed Buckwheat's jaw was either dislocated or even broken, - so he had to take care of this matter also. Approximately 5:00PM we were able to go get my baby (aka "mommie's baby") and bring him home. Of course, he was still so out of it due to the anesthesia, that he sleep the remainder of the evening and 'off and on' during the night. The vet has literally taped his mouth shut, with enough of an opening to drink water and eat very 'mushy' and 'soggy' food! At present, Buckwheat is doing very well but he gets very agitated and is trying to remove the tape from around his head/mouth and digging his head in his bed and the floor! He is so pitiful looking and acting, -- that it makes me cry! :o( He is on an antibiotic and pain medicine, so he is resting a lot.
My husband and I are convinced that 'someone' came into our yard and Buckwheat begin attacking and 'whomever' kicked him, - this was a very hard kick to have done this type of damage to his tooth and jaw! I am so thankful to God that Buckwheat was not hurt any worse or even killed. It upsets us so much to think that 'someone' would come into our yard and when Buckwheat began to do 'his thing' that someone would do this. Buckwheat was at his home and doing what any loyal dog is suppose to do......PROTECT 'his territory' and his loved ones!! I sure hope before he was attacked he was able to put his teeth in this person............. :o)!! A dog is a man's best friend but a dog can be a man's worst enemy if the man is somewhere is has no business being!!!!! I have felt so guilty for not investigating a little more Friday night, - I believe in my heart Buckwheat and Lucy were trying to alarm us that something was going on and I am so sorry I did not take heed to their warning!
To all my gather friends who have a loyal campanions, --- this article was written and posted as a tribute to them for their loyalty and their unconditional love that they have for their masters! WE LOVE YOU AND THANK YOU FOR LOVING US SO MUCH THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO DIE FOR US!!! This my friend is unconditional love!!!! ~~~God bless them all~~~

Buckwheat resting!

Mariana, my dear friend - thanks so much for your prayers, so very much appreciated!!
Hope Buckwheat's feeling much better now.
How awful for Buckwheat. Poor thing. I bet he's going to be unhappy for a while with that tape! I say, get motion-detecting lights...but, then the dogs will set them off.
And I hope he got a piece of the bad guy, too!
Talina - Thanks so much for your well wishes and concerns, - so much appreciated!
Cristina - thanks so much for your well wishes...so are so right too, idiots are everywhere!
Josie - thanks so much, - I do love and care for him (My husband says more than I do him)! I will never understand how people can be so cruel to animals....I hate that too....all they want is to be loved and nothing more!!
Lune - thanks so much for your well wishes......some people are disgusting, I will never understand it!
Flit - thanks for your concern and well wishes, so very much appreciate them!
Hollie - This is so sad, I have tears in my eyes- I am so sorry for the loss of your sister's dog. Thanks so much for your heartfelt comments and your kinds words...they mean so much to me. Thanks again!!
I'm taking it that your area is fenced off and that he could not have run into a car or anything - it is strange that someone could have kicked him but I'm sure it's very possibly but it surely must have been very very hard...how cruel...don't worry because the Universe has ways of getting back at people who are cruel to animals. Believe me, because I've seen that instant Karmic payback...or whatever you wish to call it.
Animals love and protect their loved ones unconditionally...and this is a wonderful tribute - right now, I'm sending loving and healing thoughts to your baby. He's going to be ok but I'm so very sorry that he has had to suffer a setback. Were the Police alerted to this act of cruelty - I want to know the details. We lock our gates at night so someone would have to climb over the wall to get to us - but it's a damn cruel world - if it's easy to get to people will try anything - unfortunately because of drugs and economy crime is on the upswing and desperate people do desperate things...please be careful and blessings to Buckwheat who possibly saved you from something terrible happening.
my thoughts are with you. Salud.
Vicky - thanks so much....I told my hubby I knew it was wrong to feel that way but that was how I felt...I hope he was able to bite a chunk out of him!!! BTW, thanks for seeing it my way (HeeHee)!! Vet wants the tape to stay on for two weeks but I am afraid it will be off sooner, - hubby had to do some 'work' on it yesterday!!
Sue - thanks so much for you well wishes, - he does not seem to be in any pain, - his not eating is bothering me since eating anything in sight was one of his hobbies!!
Mariana - he is inside over 2 acres of an electric fence and has never gone out of the fence, - really the fence is to keep other dogs out and only twice have we had that problem. We have a Mule (work utility vehicle), 2 riding lawn mowers, a 4-wheeler, a boat and my husband's old hunting truck all under a shed....several months ago 'someone' was stealing gas from these things, even once got it from my husband's company van......we have since placed locks on the gas tanks and even drained the gas from the others until ready for use! We set up a camera but were never able to get anyone, -- so we just wonder if someone was back doing that again! My vet feels with the way the damage was done to the right jaw -- dislocated/broken and the left fang tooth pushed out so far it had to be a direct hit to his jaw, - possibly a kick or even a baseball bat to his head. Trust me people in this area know Buckwheat....he is known as the 'big bad black dog'!! We have had problems with the utility guys coming checking our meter reads for water and electricity.....my mother in-law even saw one of the guys hit him in the head with the door of the vehicle which put a gash over his eye couple summers ago. There are children who live behind us that walk down our road which is a dirtroad and they love it pick at Buckwheat to get him started barking, I have even caught them throwing rocks and sticks at him...........needless to say after a 'little talk' with them, I have never seen this happen again! We all just feel with no other visual marks on his body (no cuts or injuries) this was a direct and intent blow to his head. Thanks so much for your well wishes and concerns I very much appreciate them my friend! I just wish at this particular moment in time, - I could get him to eat again.....I am stilling working diligently on this! Thanks again for your concerns, really means a lot to me and Buckwheat!!! :o)
BTW, the police have been and still are aware of situation!!
BTW, ---- Everyday, I am always saying to myself "how in the world did I overlook this article", - I try not to miss any of my 'valued friends' but sometimes I do!
you take care. I came up to my bed at 7 to do my checkbook...it is now 10 and I have been watching Tv and playing on Gather all night!
Tomorrow, the checkbook
I will never understand the behavior of human beings.
for your dog,I to hope your dog gave who every it was a big bite, we have a cat and I know I wouldn't want to see anybody hurt it.
I HOPE YOUR BUCKWHEAT IS WELL ON THE WAY TO RECOVERY, I AM SURE THAT YOUR LOVING CARE WILL BE THE CURE!!! LUV YOUR PUP AS ALWAYS, MAYBE A FEW EXTRA HUGS WILL MAKE YOU BOTH FEEL BETTER!!
Terri - Thanks so much for your well wishes so much appreciated. I like you will never understand the behavior of human beings why they must bring harm to innocent animals and innocent children, - it is just beyond my comprehension!
Ellie - Thanks so much for hopping back in....why is it that gather is so much more fun than the checkbook? Gather is fun and entertaining getting to see all your friends, checkbook is sad and depressing to see all your money leave!!!!!!! LOL
Gary - Thanks so much for your well wishes and prayers so much appreciated. Our pets are so precious...........they will do anything for us!!! Take care of your kitty cat!
Patti - Thanks so much Patti for you well wishes and concerns! I told my husband the same thing, I or he would probably go to jail if we caught the individual that did this! You are so right, anyone that could hurt an animal is not human or worth any sympathy for what wrath they would experience. BTW, I am giving Buckwheat an extra hug just from you too.....thanks so very much!!!!
Victoria - thanks so much, - yea, that is what bothers me so badly....I never heard him barking like 'something' or 'somebody' was in my yard and always before I would always know, - he has a different bark for everything!
Lindy - thanks so very much and you are so right just doing what they do best "protecting his family and his home"! I will give him a hug just from you............he loves that and has been getting a lot of those lately too!
If he gets a little finicky with his eating, try to feed him some stage two meat baby food. When Simon was very sick, it is the only thing I could get him to eat. Keep some pedialyte on hand if he starts to get dehydrated. And yogurt for if the squishy food gives him a tummy ache (sometimes quick diet changes can lead to upset stomachs)
I am glad your baby is still with you, bless him for being so brave!
Keep us updated, I will keep him in my prayers!
There is nothing sadder than a dog who doesn't feel like wagging his tail !!!!
Heather - Oh my sweet Heather, I have really been thinking about you, I so hope you are doing well, - I can only imagine your loss....I know how much you loved Simon. I could barely read your article the day you posted about him dying, I was truly so sorry.
Thanks for all the tips, he does seems to be eating better, though not as well today as yesterday, - it is kinda like he takes spell....sometimes he acts like he wants to eat and sometimes he doesn't! BTW, I too agree with you I have zero tolerance for animal abusers, nothing justifies abusing an animal! Thanks so much for your thoughtful and lovely comments, I know it is so hard for you so closely after the loss of Simon. Take care and God Bless!
Marianne - He is so pitiful looking, it really breaks my heart too. He is doing better! thanks so much for your concerns and well wishes, so much appreciated!
Dohdee - Thanks so much for your well wishes and concerns, - you are right, - it is heartbreaking when they are helpless and there is nothing we can do. Thanks for the info about the E-Collar, I have never heard of that one but I will certainly call my vet and ask for it. Thanks so much again for coming by, I so much appreciate it!!
Sherry - I have come to one conclusion..........there are a lot of crazy people in this world!!!! Thanks so much for your concerns and well wishes too, it is always great to see you my friend!!! :o)
Peter - He is doing better, but not eating as well today as yesterday....but he is wagging his tail, - and you are so right there is nothing sadder than a dog who doesn't feel like wagging his tail, - My daddy always says "A wag is a good sign"!! LOL Thanks so much for your concerns, I really appreciate it more than you will ever know. BTW, did you get my ping?!?!?
Connie - he is doing better and finally got him to eat late this afternoon, first time today! Thanks so much for your well wishes, I so much appreciate them!!!
Peter - he is doing better, - you are so right it is a good sign, he managed to get it completely off his head couple hours ago! I think at this moment, we both are feeling a triumph!!! LOL Thanks so much for your comments of concerns and well wishes, this truly means the world to me!
That was horrible. I know you had
to be so upset and worried about him.
Kricket says she sends good wishes that
Buckwheat get better real fast!!
and so do I !!!
Thank you for posting this to "Our Fur Babies"
