I'm nervous... but I know I can do this

I guess if you walk around holding a camera long enough... someone will ask you to shoot their wedding.

Well... the day has come. Today I'm shooting my very first wedding and yes, I'm nervous. The bride is my step-mom's best friend and the groom is my dad's best friend so they are people I know, and I'm not being paid. I am honored to be asked, this will help fill my portfolio and it's my gift to them.

I have all my batteries charged and ready to go. I have 2 camera bodies and 4 different lenses as well as 2 big memory cards. I've scouted out the location and have poses in my head. The wedding starts at 4:00pm but I'll be taking 'getting ready' and posed shots of everyone prior to the wedding starting at 2:00 or 2:30pm, then the wedding and the reception afterwards.

 I'm ready to go and I'll leave the house in about an hour.

I'm limited as far as location goes because the entire event will be held in an old church that's been transformed into a hall that people can rent out for birthday parties, meetings or weddings. The walls are neutral and the building is on the corner of 2 fairly busy streets with no spots outside to really shoot photos. So, I hope these issues don't hinder the outcome of the photos, but I'll do my best to give them what they want!

Please think about me for the next few hours and send me happy thoughts! I'll make sure to report back here tonight after everything is done and yes, I'll be able to post some photos here for you to see.

I'm glad you'll be posting photos here for us to see. I always love wedding photos.

I love shooting stuff with my camera, but my hand shakes too much to do anything professional, and my eyes are not good enough, but for an amateur I do pretty good.

Been in that situation before. What I do is see the event in my mind and prepare for it. When the real thing comes its as if I have experience. Good luck.

I know you will do great, you have such a good eye for photography. I hope we get to see a couple of your pictures!
I have no doubt that you are going to do a spectacular job. You take the most breathtaking pictures and you have a wonderful eye. finally able to access Gather today (the 16th!) about an hour ago ....as you know,i was out of town the 13th and wasn't too thrilled to find the site down and no access until today.....of course there is always work to keep me busy,so the time flew by...

There's not a whole lot of advice I can offer, except just stay calm and directed, and then breathe a sigh of relief when it's all over.

I can share what you were going through. I am going to do my first one on March 1 Its my cousins wedding and im scared half to death about it. I just posted about it yesterday. Im so worried that im going to mess up the pictures.

Hi all - I'm happy to report that I DID get through everything, although I wasn't able to get any shots outside, which is disappointing to me. I shot over 500 photos and I see a lot of great ones, so I'm happy. I'm bummed though because I was working with a white backdrop and since I only have the flash that came with my camera, it cast a harsh shadow in every photo! Now I have to try to figure out how to fix that. I plan on posting an article tomorrow asking for advice.

i've been many amateur, but good, hours behind my pentax and now canon rebel. was asked to do a wedding years ago but too busy with four kids.

Faith we all have confidence in you. We have seen some of the photo croping you did and posted the other day. You see how many of your friends came to back you up.
