Look! It's a bird that's NOT a mockingbird!!

For anyone who hasn't noticed, nearly all my bird shots are of mockingbirds, because for some reason that's all we have here at our house.  Well, today I discovered what's REALLY going on here.  The birds are avoiding me!  Apparently they're camera-shy. 

I know this, because I was outside today taking pictures while the kids played on the swingset.  I was taking pictures of a bird.  You guessed it!  A mockingbird!  I was on the far side of our storage building.  After taking a few shots, the bird flew away, and I turned around and walked back to where the kids were on the other side of the building.  There to my wondering eyes was about twenty birds, none of which were mockingbirds!!  As soon as they saw me (and evidently my camera) they all flew very quickly away.  Sounds unimaginable I know, but it is indeed very true.

If only they hadn't flown so quickly I could have documented this unbelievable scene for everyone.  The birds mock me!  There was one, however, that stuck around for a few shots.

 

Aww, the warmth of that sun feels good.

Billy-Bob?  Aunt Betty?  George?

 

 

Hey!  Is that the crazy lady with the camera?!

 

 

And then off he flew.

LOL -- I loved the commentary -- gave me a much needed smile today!! And I can't get the birds to cooperate for a photo shoot either -- sigh. Not even the Mockingbirds -- who I think are just mocking me -- really, they are! :-)

Awesome, Victoria! It was a male bluebird!!! Put up a bluebird house NOW and you might get a pair to nest in it this coming Spring and Summer!!!! But you need to get it up now so they find it and get used to it, etc. You go, girl!

I love the bird shots, and it's kind of funny that the other birds don't want to stick around. It's like the bear that lives in my neighborhood. He never comes by when I have a camera handy. THen the few times I'm outside without a camera, he comes strolling down the road.

I'm back from the Dominican Republic and it's snowing here in Ontario. I wish I could be still lying around on the beach, by the pool or eating and drinking and taking photos.
