We just got back from the Vet. I had to miss my morning class, but I havet to go to my afternoon class so I have to make this short.
Our vet checked him out, even though when I talked to the nurses (animals have nurses too you know) on the phone my long time friend (i used to work in the office when I was in 4-H) "Laura" sympathetically told me to prepare for the worse (her own cat died from the same condition a few years back).
Dr W. checked Simon out, his bladder is fine, and he does not appear to be blocked, minor or fatally thank God. He did not need to be catherderized. The crystals in his urine scrached his insides and made him swollen, tender and infected.
Simon got a Baytril injection (broad spectrum antibiotic that is good for UT problems) and Orbax 22.7 MG tablets to take for the next ten days. After the vet gave him the shot, simon started purring and rolling over on the table to get his belly rubbed. He's more like a dog than a cat.
If that improves his condition, we should be fine for at least a while. At least this time the bill was only fifty and not nearly five hundred.
Worse case senario, he blockes up anyway in the next few days. Or his kidneys decide to quit. Hopefully the antibiotic helps prevent the later.
We're not out of the tunnel yet, but at least he didn't have to go yet.

Hang in there Simon! dont be finicky now!
He's asleep in his carrier right now. He won't come out of the room I have him in, (it has tile so its easy to clean up) and he is on his own staying off the furniture aside from his cat tower. He's a smart boy.
He was loving all over everyone at the office, he's such a friendly cat its hard to see him so sick.
My head hurts like crazy and I look like I've been beat about the head from crying. But at least he's alive and fighting.
I just have to thank everyone for praying for us. Prayers are answered, from any faith and moments like this help me see how true that is.
I'll keep everyone posted.
(says she who has all sorts of schoolwork to do today and is still gathering)
I understand being choked up over a cat. When we had to put a cat to sleep a few years ago I took the day off work. If I were an actor she would be the thing I'd use to bring tears to my eyes. It's been almost 5 years and I still think of her every day.
Give him hugs from us!
Angel
BTW, Heather, I for one know that you are not crazy for getting all worked up about your darling Simon... I have two dogs that I adore and cherish....I almost lost them both (at seperate times). When Buckwheat got deathly sick and the vet told us he would not probably live til night, -- I left work and came home. Told my supervisor to put down "sick leave"....."family sick leave"!!! Thank God, through prayers, that was 4 years ago and he is going strong!!!!!!!!!
"but he might be okay"
'i know. . .'*tears*

Sometimes I don't understand myself either.
He ate a bit of the new food. I'm getting ready to try some chicken baby food and some yogurt.
Aiden has been guarding the candle I have had lit (I keep the jar candles like catholics use in stock.) to St. Jude (I truly am an eclectic person). Cats are smarter than some people give them credit. Aiden keeps checking on Simon and then he'll come in here and touch my leg and meow as if to say Mom fix him. . .
I'll keep everyone posted
Thank you all so much
Simon ate half a jar of chicken baby food and a little bit of yogurt, drank some water and pee'ed a little bit All of which are good signs. He actually came to me and meowed. I asked him if he was ready to try to eat and he started rolling over. This is a good sign! Now if we can just get him to take his pills without issue!
Place cat on a flat surface like a kitchen counter. With one arm hug the cat against you with your forearm running the length of the cat's body. Grasp the cat's head like a baseball with your thumb and ring finger against the jaw hinges. Pry the cat's mouth open with the other hand and quickly put the pill on the back of its tongue. If you get the pill far enough back that cat will swallow it by reflex. Close the cat's mouth and hold it shut. Hold it till you're sure it's swallowed the pill. You may need to check under the tongue. They're clever. :)
