Last night was the first night with my 5 week old rescue pup Dakota. I expected to be kept up all night with lots of loud yapping. Much to my surprise, the puppy slept pretty well during the night. He woke up and yipped a few times but not real loud (he can be really loud when he wants to). I didn't get up with him but just told him, "Dakota sssshh," and he settled back down and went to sleep. I didn't want to get up when he yapped because I didn't want him to learn that making noise means he can get up and play in the middle of the night. I did have to take him for one potty trip in the night. He has had 80% success in going potty in the right place already! He has newspapers to use in the house and he uses them regularly with just a couple of accidents in his sleeping box. Today I took him outside to the dog kennel and set him down in the kennel to go potty. He did his business immediately! I was so proud of him! He seems to be a real smart dog.
Our foster kitten got into the pup's sleeping box and playfully slapped him a few times. He went into the corner and hid his head, so I had to rescue him and chase the kitten away. The other cats are ignoring him and my poodle doesn't want anything to do with him. I went to the store today and bought the pup a bunch of toys. I'm not buying him anything expensive yet because my husband (the meanie) is still saying I have to give the pup back to my daughter when I am done playing with him. I hope he will change his mind. Everyone send Larry H. a message and tell him he should let me keep Dakota (smile).

Come on Larry, what's one more?
Besides dad the dog could grow up and get big and protect the house when you guys aren't home! Give Tracy some company too.
At least I've made him a warm and dry home for the winter.
