The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz by Eric Shanower (Author), Skottie Young (Author, Illustrator), L. Frank Baum (Author). The premiere American fantasy adventure gets the Merry Marvel treatment! Eisner Award-winning writer/artist Eric Shanower (Age of Bronze) teams up with fan-favorite artist Skottie Young (New X-Men) to bring L. Frank Baum's beloved classic to life! When Kansas farm girl Dorothy flies away to the magical Land of Oz, she fatally flattens a Wicked Witch, liberates a living Scarecrow and is hailed by the Munchkin people as a great sorceress...but all she really wants to know is: how does she get home?
It was a very easy, very quick read. While the illustrations are great the story was lacking in the development of the characters. Many of the “how will we get past this problem” scenes lasted for only a few panels. I haven’t read the original Oz books, so maybe this is how they flowed as well, but it can’t compare to the story told in the movie. There are major differences from the film as well. Some of them were quite interesting, but there was not enough attention paid to them.
