I've lived in my current location for three years. On the opposite ridge, there were three trees that blazed with red and yellow. They really stood out among the always green redwoods, pine and fir. This year, they have been grey as death all summer. Spring never came to them. Those trees, whatever they are (maple?) should be still be green. Something happened to them.

I was remembering when they were alive and lit up like torches at the end of summer as I formed this haiku.
