I guess I identify most with the last Mother Theresa quote. When I went to Baptist Bible College, I wanted to become a missionary. I became very disillusioned when the said the missionary's primary role was to preach Christ and that there often wasn't time to help people with daily life needs. My opinion was/is to give the person food for his hunger, then preach the Gospel of Christ. Some of the Japanese teachers were just shocked that I had students help me pass out food to the homeless in Osaka during the Winter break. I've never felt myself superior to anyone. We are all the same in God's want to love us. I am very fortunate and I realize this and thank God daily for this. It drives my wife a bit nuts when I walk over and talk to a homeless person. I almost always give them money. A friend once chastized me saying the homeless person would only buy booze. I asked him how he would feel if he could not buy beer for lack of money. If the homeless use the money I give them to buy booze that is their right. I do not put strings on my gifts or judge. All I can do is pray for these unfortunate people. To just simply care about another human being is what my heart tells me is right. To stand up against those who hurt or manipulate others is my duty. I'm not the easiest person to get close to because I do not like competition or selfishness. Most simply think I'm boring, but those who know me think I'm a very funny person. I want people who have care for others in my life. Those who manipulate and are selfish need no care. They will find their own path. I just refuse to walk on that path with such people.

My life is dominated by one command. When I was under anaesthesia, I felt that I was drifting away from my world.
I felt God behind me and so I asked Him'"is this all there was for me?" and I sensed His answer because He doesn't speak like you and I.
I sensed this : "I'm sending you back. You will work for me You will show compassion. You will give up your work and you'll begin to write...in My name. You'll write about compassion in My name."

When I woke up, the surgeon said that I had almost died for a moment during the op. I gave up my work and began to write. I try to obey this command "show compassion."

I think everyone of them are good words of wisdom to live by. Mother Theresa being first on my list. The one by Tolstoy is next on my list. You have done a great job of gatherine some terrific words to share with us.

One thing I found is that love and compassion do not come from religious theology. I have found such religious ideology tries to control these emotions. Love and compassion is in the heart and your willingness to let God be the light of this expression.

It's all about acceptance......starting with yourself... begin to see and accept your perfection in your own imperfection.

Love Mother Teresa,,, I have a favorite of my own,,, I wrote this one morning as I sat having coffee and looking at the tree in my back yard at the time,,, words come to me when I least expect them,,,

There are elements of truth and wisdom in all quotes but, I think, Leo Tolstoy takes the cake singlehandedly.
