Growing up I was surrounded by singing, my mom, my dad and aunts and uncles all sang. Everyone in the family had a nice voice (except my brother who is tone deaf).
Because of being surrounded by songs, I know songs from the 20's, 30's, 40's etc.
There is almost always a song that fits any situation evolving around me. I either start singing, humming or hearing the song in my head.
I know I'm happy in my life when I find myself singing while I do chores, or singing without the radio in the car.
Somehow the tradition of singing got lost in my family as the aunts and uncles started to die off. My kids and their peers never really liked to sing and thought I was a little nuts (well, I am a little nuts, but this is not the manifestation).
At one point, a group of my friends got the money together to send me to try out for "Name That Tune", the tv game show that used to play small segments of songs and ask the participants to "Name That Tune". They cancelled the show the next week.
Maybe singing (sans radio) has gone out of style or is only good for karaoke.
All I know is that when I'm happy, I sing.
What about you?

Love listening to music before my time, not just classical, meaning Frank Sinatra, Coltrane, all kinds of jazz, oldies, etc.
Sharon, do you also jump up and dance to some tunes?
It is so great to do this in front of my kids, it embarrasses them to have other people see their mom shaking her good thing!
My mom sang all the time. When she used a certain timbre you knew it was time to stop doing whatever you were doing.
I sing all the time.
anytime;
any day;
anywhere;
no matter who's around!
