Last week a famous beer company (you know who it is) had their Clydesdales in Sioux Falls for promotions around town, etc. Unfortunately they were all during the day on weekdays so the average working Joe (or Dan..lol) didnt have a chance to see those. But, they were being boarded at the fairgrounds here in town, and available for the public to see them and you could bring your camera out to get some pictures of them. Boy was I dissapointed when I got there. These beautiful and gentle "giants" were being kept in cages with bars stretching from the floor to above their heads. The cages were barely big enough for them to even turn around in, in fact I doubt some of the larger horses could!

Now I'm not saying these beauties were being mistreated at all. They all seemed healthy and well fed, etc. I have heard their "homes" in St. Louis are something else, and the trucks they use to transport them in are special built and air conditioned.

But I sure was not impressed with the way they are kept while out on the road. And what kind of a photo can one take when you have bars blocking your view of the animal. You could not get close enough to them to touch or pet them if you wanted to either. (although it would have been easy enough to hop the chain if I had wanted to ..there was nobody even around watching them!) I know there are safety issues and all that, but I dont know why a normal stable wouldnt work just as well if not better where they could at least have their heads poking out. (Of which there are plenty of at the fairgrounds.)
It was a dissapointing visit to say the least. I spent less than 10 mins. there and left disgusted. C):-(

Clydesdales are beautiful horses.
This comment and rating of your older gather content was an idea Steve the Legend had on how to give a Christmas gift to our Gather connections. He posted an article with the suggestion of viewing content from before we were connected. You are the 17th connection I have done this with so far, Dan. I hope you have a very Merry "Cowboy" Christmas!
