views: 328 | rating: 10/10 (21 votes) | comments: 194

Join us here for a live chat, Tuesday 11/25 from 4-4:30PM ET (1-1:30PM PT) with Joyce Schwarz, author of the book, The Vision Board, one of our featured titles this month in Bright Ideas from Bestselling Authors.

Before joining the chat, ask yourself, "How do I ultimately achieve what I most want most in life?"

Joyce will guide you through the process of creating a vision board. The Gather Editorial team will be selecting the member who submits their favorite question during the 30 minute chat to receive 500 Gather Points. Good luck to all.

You must hit the refresh button on your browser to see new comments appear throughout the live chat. If you can't make the chat though, leave your question in the comment field below.

What is a Vision Board?

A vision board is a powerful way to visualize your goals and keep you focused. Vision is the key connector between one's daily goals and one's lifetime purpose. It opens ways for you to practice the law of attraction as you ask, believe, and receive your visions.

Every now and then I make it home from work by 4:15. If I do tomorrow, I'll jump on the computer and participate in this chat. There's something I have wanted for 3 1/2 years, and I've done everything I can think of to get it. Maybe I'll ask about that.

So you show daily & long term goals? Is there a progress chart of some kind on the board so that you can move your image forward? I'm guessing you have a date you plan on accomplishing one or more goals. It does sound like it might be encouraging ... make us a little more excited to do the daily sacrifices :)

Good afternoon Gather.

Welcome to the chat Joyce Schwarz. For the next 30 minutes we'll be discussing her new inspirational book, The Vision Board. You may jump in at any point with a question.

Joyce, can you explain to the audience what a vision board is, and what inspired you to write this book?

What inspired me to write the book? I've got a great post on this on Gather.com Why The Vision Board but rather than steal that thunder let me just explain that I've used this method with thousands of people and my own life. It uses left and right brain not just analytical skills to design your life!

I sometimes find that I have trouble keeping my goals. I get discouraged and quit trying. I have been told that I set my goals too high. Is it best to set lower goals than as they are achieved, set higher ones?

My question is:
Do you suggest keeping your goals secret - so you do not get discouraged by "well meaning friends and family" who might destroy your dream and dash your fledling hopes and ideas?

My Question:

When you start to feel like you don't know how to continue on with your goal, or like everything has been a dead end, how do you find a new path to walk down towards your goal?

MarshaS asks how do you overcome the lost feeling or the giving up feeling. THE BEST way is by being grateful for what you DO have. Start with my GRABS system. Of being grateful for what you do have , R= releasing the past beliefs, A= acknowledge your self and what you have done B= believe in yourself and the future S= share the goodstusff in your life. Great for Thanksiging right?

Mary Bradley -- perfect tme to create what's called a concept board for your fiction. Make a list of the projects you have already finished -- I assume you have finished some. And then create a vision board based on what the overview is for your fiction. Do you want to be a best-selling NY TIMES author, Do you want to teach Fiction in Colleges? Do you want to REALLY write romance novels or mystery? Ask yourself some questions in your own visioning section as descrbed in chapter 1

Marsha S -- talks aboutr keeping goals secret. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT? Afraid of what people might say? Then only share your vision board with those people you trust will support you. Or you might want to have several vision boards! I'll bet that between the peeps we have on this chat we could help everyone fulfill one of the visions on thier vision board? Nana to seven cutiepies. Obstacles are always tehre if you see them that way. But anyone who can be nana to 7 cutiepies knows how to deal with obstacles. You jump over them, you skip around them. You see them as challenges. You teach yourself like you do your cutiepies how to crawl, walk and then run!

Journaling is a big part of setting and keeping goals. I do keep a journal and I write my feelings, fears, trials and so forth in it. I have noticed when I go back and read entries that I have written previously - I can see the goals that I have made being fulfilled so to speak. However, I do not see them in the same light as my life is unfolding. Is journaling part of the way you suggest to set and keep goals?

Hi Joyce, thanks for being here with us.

My question is that I am the type of person who does not know what I want. I love so many things and I cannot figure out what to do with my life. The job I'm at is okay, and the people are great but it will not achieve the things I want.

I want to do something I have passion for, but my passion always fizzels so quickly that as soon as I've explored it, I'm already on to something else. So my question is How do I create a life for myself based on my passions, when it doesn't seem I have one that sticks?

@marshas -- that too can change -- nothing is permanent I was listening to Joel Ostein this weekend and he had a great sermon on that -- things change. One of the thigns you can do is to create an affirmation in that saying I am pleased my mom is supporting my goals.

Priscilla, have you & your spouse tried talking about your goals? Maybe make a compromise & just support each other (depending on the situation of course)

well my mom doesn't support my goals at all....all she is worried about is whether or not I can pay her rent, which is understandable, but her telling me I can't make it doesn't help me

Lisa H -- the United Nations and the World bank don't think vision board creation is silly-- see chapter 1 actual examples they use it for creating the future for third world countries....it is a way of planning projects using pictures. Do you use maps-- my dad thought they were silly so we always got lost -- NOT SILLY:))

I have alot of goals that I want to meet in life one is to someday have a home for teeanagers with babies that dont have anywhere to go.. But the problem that I am having is I dont know where to start with this goal or dream. When I tell others about they say it is a good goal and I am sure that I will get there

Wow Marsha, I wish I knew where you were coming from. My parents always supported me on whatever, when sometimes I wish they would tell me they wanted something from me in specific.

I have a goal written in the front of my journal below my family photo. The family photo is to remind me of why I want to keep my goals. The quote says "To Be Better Than You Were -Is Better Than -Being Better Than Someone Else.

I used to have a huge problem comparing myself to others and I always seemed to fall short. Until I realized that they had trials and faults as well. So I decided to only compare myself to myself as I was the day before. Does that make sense at all?
