I prefer not thinking in terms of "healthy" foods, or I won't eat them. On the other hand, homegrown is the best, no matter what it is. I hate squash, unless it's grown in our garden, and grilled by hubby.
BUT, my favorite homegrown food is one that can't be grilled. I grew my own popcorn last year. Delicious! Also, close to miraculous (except I remember sweating when it was time to polinate while in a long heat wave), since our garden is in our 16' X 16' concrete backyard, in South Philly, PA. The popcorn was grown in a wide corner container, squished together with sunflowers. I had to climb a chair in the alley to reach the tassles, to shake the pollin into a container, and then paint it onto all the green silk on each ear, and then pluck the finished popcorn ears in late October, before the first frost. All that work, for one air-popper of homegrown popcorn. LOL
