I remember watching the Wizard of Oz every year when it was on TV when I was a kid. We only had one TV in those days, and it was black and white. I was in college before I ever saw this in color! (And we aren't talking good old days, we're talking late 70s early 80s--everybody had color TV before we did).
Anyway, I was off at college and my campus was showing Wizard of Oz in the library theatre. I had a broken foot at the time and I remember it taking forever to go over the hill to get to that side of campus to see the movie with my friends. Anyway, it's a memorable occasion for many reasons.
So here it is, 1978 or 79 and I'm watching the movie, in a packed theater by the way. Not a huge theater, but packed nonetheless. Anyway the movie looked like it always did until, as everyone but me knew, Dorothy opens the door in Oz. When she looks out at Oz I let go with a huge "Oh my g-d, it's in color." I got my own laugh there--everyone must have heard me.
So the "horse of another color" in the Emerald City, I hadn't known that it actually changed color. It's so funny to think of that now. I'd probably seen the move a dozen or more times before that and since, but that one viewing remains in my memory as the best of them all.
