The Storm
one hot and stuffy morning
we were waiting for the rain
to end the opressive heat wave
to bring some relief again
while the sun shines bright
with the humidity so high
the haze lingers in the distance
we still wait for the rain
the grass is turning brown
the crops wither and die
the birds don't sing their songs
while the animals all hide
we swelter in excessive heat
looking to the sky
watching every cloud for rain
looking for a sign
waiting for the rains to come
it seams so very long
a cloud on the horizon
a lonely little cloud.
watching with excitement
the cloud begins to change
it's growing bigger
it's growing darker
it's beginning to change
it's bringing the promise of rain
now it is joined by others
clouds dotting the sky
then they join together
the first sprinkles begin
rain to cool
rain to refresh
rain to cleanse
rain to liven up our souls
then we can hear it
the thunder rolls
we can see it
the lightning strikes
a storm
a storm
the clouds are making a storm
we need the rain so much
everything is dry
this is what we longed for
now we can be saved
as it grows so does our worry
it's growing so strong now
the sky is so dark
what do we do now
lightnlng
thunder
rain
and hail
the torrential rains
slam the ground
the gusting winds
blow tree limbs down
it's been raining
for so long
storming for forever
what went wrong
how can our wonderful rain
be getting stronger once again
worry has replaced our glee
how come it's gotten so bad
the power is gone
the puddles grow bigger
the wind gusting and blowing
when will the storm end
it's been a few hours
the streets are now flooded
the trees are not blowing
do to the wind breaking and tearing
the lightning is the only light
the thunder loud and obnoxious
why must it storm
why must it rain
we sit huddled inside
waiting for the sun to shine
we sit in here and worry
for the storm to end it's fury
thunder trailing off
wind dying down
lightning very dim
rain sprinkling again
we think the storm is over
now everything is gone
the streets are like rivers
everything is gone
houses flooded
dark and lonley
we sit and wait
for the storm to end
trees are cracked and bent
toppled by the wind
fires lit by lightning
now dot the surroundings
the clouds are thinning
thunder has stopped rumbling
the wind has died down
the rain has stopped falling
the sun is shining now
the air fresh and clean
the birds sing their song
the land has been bathed
we look out our window
there's destruction everywhere
we had got so excited
we wanted the rain
we thought it would be better
we thought it would help
the heat was intense
the humidity relentless
we rode out the storm
we had to endure
now the sun shines
and we can see
we must be happy
with what we have
so we can will realise
things could be worse
