Swine Flu Paranoia

They are gonna start giving them at our school (as soon as they get them) I don't think our boys will be getting them. I have been hearing a lot of bad stuff about the vaccine.

Yes, I'm not going to have my child get the vaccine because the flu shot will actually give you the flu anyway.

Yep, I totally agree! None of my family has ever gotten any flu shot at all.....ever! People just need to use good ole common sense.....perhaps even take vitamins, eat well, get plenty of sleep, drink lots of liquids, including juices, etc.
One of our friends got pretty sick with the flu (he said he had it for about three weeks)....told me that if I or the family start feeling sick, to buy, and take, Goldenseal (Walgreen's has it, I think).
Anyhow, yes, the media gets quite carried away!

Echinacea and chopped raw garlic are also two things to take when you feel sick. Garlic kills anything.

i saw the news a couple weeks ago showing small children being very ill from the vaccine - i'd avoid the shots!

It all depends on so many factors - region, urban/suburban/rural, hygiene habits, how active you are in the community, the size of the company you work for, the type of air circulation you're exposed to in your daily travels (especially your office's indoor air circulation), etc.
I hope my kids get the shot since the Peds office is so slammed I can't get them in for an appointment until January at the earliest. Disgusting!

Our office is taking walk-ins for the shots as well as appointments. Contact your local health dept to find out what other sites are offering them to children so you can get in there and take care of it soon.

I think the reason the swine flu in the 70's didn't dig in was because so many were vaccinated. Many did get sick from the shot itself but given the amount of people who took it the percentage wasn't really that much higher than the norm of people who are sensitive to the normal flu shots.

I stopped taking the shots because I was sensitive and they always made me sick. I don't think we will get the shots either but the fear is, when so many are vaccinated, those of us not, are the ones left to catch it.

I've talked about the swine flu thing from the 70s and I can't find anyone I know who was vaccinated. Weird. I don't even remember that happening. I guess, when we didn't have internet and we didn't have 24/7 news shows, we didn't get information like we do today.

Well now you know somebody who got it. My Uncle was a mailman and they got free flu shots encluding the swine flu one that year. I was consicered family since I lived with them and got the shots. I got sick, the flu from them lol.

I wasn't vaccinated for the flu in the 70s, either. I never heard of flu vaccines back then.

I was sensitive to the shots, too, when I started getting them in the early 90s, but I think they're improved now. I may try again next year.

I guess the vaccines have been around since 1945, but I never heard of them until the late 80s.

No way will my son or I ever get that shot. I heard it makes you sicker then to actually form your own immunity to it. I have not had any shot ever and not had any flu in over 5 years.

From what I remember of the first reports of swine flu in March, it was only adults and young adults that really got sick. When children got swine flu, it hit them just like the regular flu.

NEVER, not a chance will that crap go into my body or the body of my children.

Someone had a post here today about the fact that the computer chips they want to put in people are now so small that they can be injected like vaccines. So that makes one wonder if that's why the rush to give the swine flu to everyone around the world.

My daughter was only sick for like 3 days with it. Although it has landed a friend in the hospital, but she has cystic fibrosis.

My mom doesnt get them, I've never gotten them, and neither are my kids.

I've had flu symptoms at least twice this year, both during times the swine flu was in the area, for all I know I already had it. I hope so.

A cold does not cause a fever. H1N1 is a real virus. 5 people have died from it so far in my county. 245 reported cases this month alone of it too.
We have a lot of cases of the H1N1 here. I think it's due to the two huge military installations and SEVERAL colleges and Universities in such close promximity to one another.
Regular flu is up 30% than what it was last year.
Illness in any form is nothing to laugh off...
I do not want to play Russian Roulette with my family's health at all.

I've gotten a flu chot every year through work for 13 years....I no longer work and now I'm being denied getting it because I'm not under 18, over 65 or have pre-existing conditions

Bad reactions to vaccines get a lot of publicity, but they are, in reality, extremely rare.

Diseases that can be prevented by vaccines are NOT rare, and many are quite serious.

People who are against ALL vaccines clearly have no understanding of the basic mathematics involved here.

The only question really, is how serious a threat h1n1 is. Right now, it is still less lethal than the regular seasonal flu (which has a relatively low level of lethality in healthy persons), but it is definitely worth watching, as the numbers of both cases and deaths in the US have been increasing.

For the moment, I got a regular seasonal flu vaccine, not only for my sake, but to protect my students and my son. There have been no h1n1 cases reported in my area so far, so I have not had that shot yet, but I am certainly not going to base that decision on any of this "all vaccines are evil" idiocy that I have been hearing occasionally.

If those folks had their way, we'd still be losing kids to smallpox.

I haven't gotten the vaccine and probably won't. Today, this woman knowingly came into my work and exposed me to what she said was the H1N1 (her daughter said it was H1N1, but she said it was "just the flu"). I had to deal with her at about arm's length for several minutes. I work in a library, she didn't have to be there. Getting a book is NOT an emergency or a necessity that you have to expose people to getting sick. I don't have health insurance and I don't get sick pay and now I face the possibility that I will lose a good chunk of money that I need to pay rent and food because of this if I catch it. Ugh. Well, she won't be the last person to expose me, that's for sure.

In other words, if I've already been exposed or have had the flu, I will probably not need the flu shot.

I don't plan to get the swine flu shot or even the regular flu shot this year. However, I sure don't need a case of the flu before my knee replacement surgery or after either. I am concerned about getting exposed to it in the hospital.

I just returned to work yesterday after a 7 day bout with swine flu (hey, I'm a statistic now!). I'm still tired, have a cough and problems with my kidneys because of the virus but I've actually had much worse cases of regular flu.

With regular flu I usually get vomiting and intestinal distress which I didn't get with swine flu, so in my mind it wasn't the end all be all of flus by a long shot.

My kids aren't getting vaccinated either....and neither are we. I've already had some strain of the flu this season (didn't get tested to see if it was H1N1) and I was sick for about 2 weeks.

I get a flu shot every year because I have asthma and when I get sick I really get into trouble. I am still undecided about the h1n1 vaccine. My doc says he is not convinced that it's really necessary if you take the precautions as with any other illness. I don't know.

Never. Never would I allow formaldehyde, detergents, mercury, and antifreeze (among other things) to be injected into my children. I can't believe ANYONE would - but most people blindly follow their doctor's advice, or main stream media's recommendations, when they are fully funded by the pharmeceutical companies.

I stopped vaxing my children after my 2nd one. I did my own research, asked my own questions, and realized what a crock vaccines are. I drop to my knees and thank God my older two children are okay (we won't know the long term effects until they happen), and thank God my younger two are safe now. Since the diseases were eradicated or nearly gone when vaccines were introduced, we now know they did NOTHING to prevent the diseases. Nothing. Nada. And if my child gets the chicken pox? So what? I did! Scratch a couple of days and then have a wonderful natural immunity.

Yeah. No flu shot here. No poisons for my family.

I totallly agree with you, My husband and I share the same feelings about it. Just like the bird flu they make big deals out of these thing to cause everyone to worry then there on to another flu next year. I have God on my side. I will not worry myself about it.Also , I cheerlead can now not walk right do to the vaccine, you can watch her interview on youtube or on the inside edition.

Rita, a cheerleader is just the tip. There are hundreds, possibly THOUSANDS, of people crippled by this vaccine. Now add in those crippled or killed by the other vaccines that are touted, and you have what could almost be called a medical consipiracy. It's tragic, but they've never hidden what's in them - so anyone doing their own research can see that there is thousands times more mercury in a vaccine than the EPA deems safe for a building, etc. etc. etc.

We've never gotten any of those shots - none of us and we are not getting the swine flu one either.

A friend's doctor said it's a crap shoot anyway if it actually WORKS, so why bother?

And I got a survey yesterday about it. They wanted us to watch a video saying how SAFE the vaccine was and how GREAT it was. Then asked if we'd changed our minds and would get it.

I don't know anyone personally that has gotten the shot. No one in my close family has.

When I worked in the medical field I did get the flu shot, that is the only time I have gotten them....... My kids will NOT be getting the H1N1 vaccine and I hope that I don't regret that decision.

I had a class on diseases and it was quite interesting-- the professor (a doctor, this is his specialty) explained why swine flu was different. There are some neat little differences between it and 'normal' flues-- but then again, every strain has its little differences! A lot of the initial scare with swine flu was that it wasn't targeting the normal 'risk' groups, and I think that was part of why people got particularly crazy with the scares.

I wouldn't get the shot, either. Definitely don't feel comfortable getting any vaccine that new, and I've never gotten the other flu shots, either. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and I seem to be fine ;)

Between listening to the media and the public talk I am more confused than ever. I have two kids and a husband who are prone to respiratory problems.

We are NOT getting the flu shot here. Either the "regular" flu or the swine flu. It seems the government is getting angry that so many people are refusing to get the shot, so they are reporting that the vaccines are scarce here in Michigan. That seems to get people riled up and wanting it.

Makes me wonder why this new vaccine that was thrown together so quickly is being almost forced upon us.

We are not getting the flu shot either. The schools here were offering the vaccine for free, and I chose not to participate. The Swine Flu, is just a fancy name for the "flu" and it has been blown out of proportion. Cover your mouth, sneeze into a tissue or your elbow, sanitize your hands often, and you will be fine.

For most people it is not bad, but if you have an underlying medical condition, then it can be really bad. I got the Swine flu on Oct. 8th and I am just now recovering because I have diabetes. I almost ended up in the hospital because I couldn't eat and couldn't keep anything down. The doctor told my husband on Friday night, if I was still having problems by Sunday night, to take me into the hospital. Fortunately, one of the meds they gave me for nausea took effect and I started being able to at least keep soup and jello down.
