I always thought of airports as vacation launching points. It was the place as a kid, my grandma and grandpa would come to visit, or as an adult, we would leave to go on vacation.
Then, came my husband's first long business trip. He was going to Singapore for 6 weeks. I felt like someone died. I started to notice other people crying. The airport had lost its romance, and now, was a place of great sorrow.
I'm sure with soldiers and families of soldiers the feeling is much worse, but for me it was the saddest day. We have never been apart for more than a day or two, and suddenly, six weeks, and on the other side of the world.
What does the airport represent to you?

I always think of 9/11 when I fly. :.(
I like going to airports because everytime I've went its been to pick up someone. I've only been to Duellas (outside DC) and last summer me and a friend picked up an exchange student there. It was cool to meet so many people from different countries
To me airports are mostly happy places. People going here and there.
You hit the nail on the head, Deloris!
They are happy places but if I go there like twice within a week or so its sad. My best friend comes every year and I love to go to the airport and meet her but man when I have to watch her fly away I hate airports. Right now I hate airports cuz last time I was there my little brother left for Boot Camp. The day I see him fly back I will love them again
