I need everyone's opinion on my 11 year old son. He and a friend of mines daughter are telling us they are girlfriend and boyfriend. I found this cute at first, but when thinking about it wonder what they mean by this. Is it just a label because they like each other or is there more to the story? Is it ok as long as they are supervised or should I tell them they are to young to be girlfriend and boyfriend? Is this normal? I have a 14 year old that has just started getting in to the girlfriend thing. Is it because my 14 year old is that my 11 year old is now liking girls? You know monkey see monkey do. When is it to young to have a girlfriend/boyfriend?

I'd say, just talk to the kid. Ask him what being boyfriend/girlfriend means. Play the "old people" card and say, "Well, when I was your age, we just went on dates and eventually we decided to go steady. What does boyfriend/girlfriend mean now?" And see what he says. My guess it means only spending a lot of time with that person and holding hands.
Make it pretty clear what your expectations are if you do allow him to date, including the supervision thing. Group dates with friends, or house dates where you or her parents can keep an eye on them.
Besides, even if you say no, he's still going to hold her hand in the hallway and eat lunch with her.
