Good Morning folks! I hope everyone had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend. It was beautiful in Boston.
We're here to help if you have any questions.
Why will Gather no longer let me post my MySpace graphics off of my toolbar???
This might have something to do with how we changed the comment box on Gather. When you would normally use these graphics, were you copying some kind of embed code into the comment box?
If so, you should try using the HTML tool at the bottom right corner of the comment box.
I have noticed when I go to comment on articles a lot of them have an orange spinning thing instead of the comment box and it doesn't go away even after a long period of time. I would like to be able to comment on things so I am wondering is this a glitch? Is there something I can do to make this not happen?? I am on a cable modem - business class high speed connection. Thanks
Hey Kimber, what browser (and version) are you using? Maybe it's specific to a certain browser.
It has happened to me on IE7, Firefox, and my mobile browser Opera 8
I still have the same problem as Kimber and a few others. I have to refresh the page as many as three times before I can comment.
Same question as for Kimber: what browser and version are you using?
IE 7.0.5730.13
Thank you and yes a very nice weekend was had by all in our family. No new glitches to report. Same old ones though.. lol.. Articles won't post? However, despit that, I am still waiting on a reply from gather support concerning 1 of the 5 emails (4 were unfortunantly sent due to computer or site error) to you over the weekend. I also posted these concerns online and at the 5-21 help desk. (Gather's Member Support team is happy to assist you with whatever questions or concerns you might have about your Gather experience.) Thank you manangment for your attention as I know you may be short handed these days and attempting to deal with lots of various issues...
Hi Sandy and John, we did get your messages from the weekend. Unfortunately, you're right in assuming that we quite busy. We will do our absolute best to review all complaints on the matter and address them this week.
I've had the same happen to me with the comment box; won't load. The "reply to this comment" seems to load right away though.
Hey John, same question as to Kimber and Nana: what browser and what browser version are you running?
I'm using IE, and I believe it is IE7Pro.... I'm having a brain cramp here trying to remember how to look that up, LOL.
By the way, it doesn't do it every time; some times it loads fine. Right now though as I type this, the little wheel is still spinning down there...
Everything else in here seems to load almost instantaneously as well.
Haven't received a SINGLE email notification about comments on my posts even though the settings ask for this. Although I have been getting reports from Groups on posts to which I have email notification turned OFF!!!!
Thanks muchly
How long has all this been occurring? The NEXT time you get an email referring to a group that you're not supposed to receive emails about, let me know.
Also, I wouldn't think just one type of notification would wind up there, but have you checked your junk/spam/bulk folder in your email?
Yes~I set and reset and set and reset and . . . .I've given up on email notifications~
And it has been going on since the last upgrade when the purrty kool comment piggybacking was introduced *along withthe gadawfullly unsightly people page, =O O, my cough cough, who said that* ;)
Okay... well, if you haven't totally given up, please forward the next email you get - that you weren't supposed to get - to me at chuck@gatherinc.com.
through my outside gather email, right? see, I guess I haven't given up, gather's got me hooked, thanks ;)
I have a question regarding the explore page.
What makes a photo or article "most popular"? It can't be ratings because there has been several with less that 7 rating make it to the list as well as the top place. It can't be views, because some that have made it have less than five views, when I know some of my own have fifty or more and I know others who have even higher views. It can't be 'most discussed' either because a lot of them have no comments or less than five.
So, how can those images be considered 'most popular' when no one is viewing, rating or commenting on them?
And, i recall someone on staff said the page reflects the weekly most popular (in that case the above facts I mentioned are even more important) rather than daily. Why the switch from daily 'popular' to weekly pseudo-popular? Something shared on sunday may not be relevant come friday afternoon.
And spell check is still not functioning onsite other than the first word in a line.
Hi Heather,
I'm going to need to check on the specifics of this and get back to you, because I'm not entirely sure myself.
Thanks Chuck :)
Sometimes after a comment box loads, I cannot type anything into the box.
If you refresh the page, you are then able to type?
Thanks Chuck! I'll try that next time it happens.
The "More by..." lists along the right side of post content pages always used to list the most recent three posts by whomever's content you are viewing. It is no longer the most recent three, it seems random. How is this determined? I think it should go back to being a list of the most recent three posts, that is handy in case I missed commenting on their recent posts.
Hi Sassy,
The change is that now the More By... list shows not the most recent content by that author, but the most relevant content by that author based on what you're currently viewing. I believe it uses the tags to search for relevance.
That's interesting because I don't use tags, but I still get a listing on my content pages.
happened to me a few times.

Huh. I'm remain confused by this. Last night I posted a picture of a urinal and the "More by" content it initially showed was a picture of my eyball and two pictures of accordions, all from 2007. None of the "relevant" photos shared any of the same tags. In some cases, I've noticed that the "You might also like..." and "More by..." content is identical.
(If anyone cares, I preferred the old "More by.." list.)
Thank's Chuck..
i had no problems with gather until I rebooted after the upgrade spell check worked etc in the regular comment box. Now if I want to spell check I must open the HTML to see what needs to be corrected I hate this. SO those who are having spell check problems click the HTML in the corner and see if spell check works there for you.
I hope we get the ability to use spell check back with out having to click the html link why not just make the comment box html enabled that way no extra clicking like it use to be
