When it was turned on this morning we made the decision not to deliver the backup, since this added to problems yesterday. For the past 2 hours notifications are being delivered on current activity, except some of the group activity. We are closely watching for any anomalies.
Please report any problems you have with email notifications to the Support Team by commenting here or sending us a message.
I can see the groupspace is public. Have you tried to publish to groups yet since last week's upgrade?
If this helps, your disability forum group has content restricted to group members only. Thus, to choose this group when publishing you must select Private: Selected private groups from the drop-down box under "Who Can View this article".
This restricts content visibility to group members when the content is published only to your group. You can change this group setting via the group settings link on your group management 'dashboard' on the groupspace page.
Can you explain what you mean by the comment "disappearing"? Walk me through precisely what happens when you type a comment and attempt to submit it. I assume the comment never actually posts?
What happens is I type a comment in, and when hitting the "post" button, I'm taken to a log-in page. I have to enter in my password etc. (since I am now logged off) and it then takes me back to the article I was making a comment on... but my previously typed comment is not there...poof gone, I have to re-type it in. It happened several times in a row at one point today, and I gave up on that article...
Also, is this still happening to you? If not, then around what timeframe were you experiencing this?
When the website is experiencing latency, like it has been recently, members can sometimes be logged out quite often. When this happens to me, I usually find that checking off the "keep me signed in" box when signing in is a great help. Let me know if that doesn't help you at all.
Regarding your second comment... Can you give me the username of the connection you're talking about? You can send it in a private message or email if you'd like.
Did the process fail when you clicked the "Add as Friend" button on their namespace, or when clicking the "Send" button on the following page?
When the process does fail, are you logged out of your account, or are you just brought to your "My Gather" page?
The notifications are actually going out in real time. There is a timestamp problem affecting some members.
For instance, I just received a notifiation at 3:51pm that a member I'm connected to commented on an image. I looked at the image and her commment there shows it was left at 3:51pm.
When I look at your comment above, I see a 2:50pm time stamp, when it was left at 3:50. I dont' have an estimate of when this will be fixed, but I wanted members to know the notifications are currently going out in real time.
"Thanks for this opportunity to address problems. I'm sure you've addressed this elsewhere, but I'm really perplexed over the stats module at Gather which seems to be malfunctioning in a most unusual way, showing age-old articles as most read, even in the most read per day, and all of the people most viewed stats are way out of whack... going on over a month now.
WHY DOESN'T GATHER JUST TURN OFF THESE 'READOUTS' RATHER THAN PRESENT SUCH MISLEADING AND ODD INFORMATION... AND WHY SO DIFFICULT TO FIX?

Ed – MY APOLOGIES for not copying your question into today's article. You ask good questions that I will escalate internally.
You are correct; unfortunately the counts have been off since the January release. We had hoped to have a fix ready for the Guthrie release, but did not. It is important to have these lists functioning correctly so members can use them to easily see what is currently the most read or viewed content. It is not a quick fix, but needs to be addressed in a timely manner. I'll post back here with an update on whether the functionality can be turned off in the meantime.
On your second question, it failed when I clicked on "add a friend" - as soon as I clicked on "add a friend" I was brought to my personal "My Gather" page.
On your third question, I'm just brought to my personal "My Gather" page. I haven't been on Gather since I posted on here at help.gather.com so I don't know if it's still a problem.
I had a question about the cash option. I received my invite to switch to cash and sent in my w9 monday afternoon. My earnings are still in points not cash. Several members I talked to said their accounts were switched the same day, or next day that they sent in their w9. I was wondering if something went wrong in the process of sending my stuff to you. (I got a conformation from my work fax that it went through but you never know with technology lol). Or maybe I needed to send something else in.
Thanks in advance :)
I got your email earlier today on this subject. Turnaround time can vary after a member faxes us their W-9 form. It is true that sometimes their accounts are converted on the same day, but more often it takes a few days for this to occur. I will check with our finance team tomorrow on the status of your earnings, and get back to you privately by email.
Thanks Chuck :)
Just to recap, Gather's entire email notification system went down sometime in the late afternoon yesterday. It was turned back on this morning (March 12) around 9:00 am EDT, except for most types of group-related notifications. These group notifications have been kept off to prevent the multiple notification effect I mentioned above.
I'm pleased to announce that tomorrow morning at 6:00 am EDT, Gather will be deploying a patch to address this. We are hopeful that this will fully solve that problem with group notifications. During this deployment (which should take no more than 20 minutes) the Gather website will remain running live, but we strongly recommend that you refrain from publishing or uploading during this time. It is likely that if you are on Gather between 6:00 and 6:20 am tomorrow morning, the patch deployment will log you out and you will need to sign back in. This could result in the loss of whatever you are working on.
We greatly appreciate your continued patience while we get our email notification system running properly!
