Jury duty

When I worked fo Lockheed they paid us while doing jury duty. It had some real boring time waiting to get on a jury but once you did it was interesting. One was a murder case and the other burglary. Cost is the biggest reason people don't want to do it.

Yes I have and I hated it! We were deciding the fate of a 19 year old man who hadn't done the crime, but he was with a friend who decided to break into a gun shop and instead of going to the police, he ran home and didn't want involved, but in this state just being with him makes you a part of the crime. I was having a hard time with my decision and the rest of them were not too happy with me not agreeing right away. They were more concerned with it being thursday night and it was meatloaf night at home, or some other stupid reasons! I never want to do it again! Wonder what they would have felt if they were the accused and I just wanted it settled so I could go home to a stupid meatloaf dinner? I don't have much faith in our system anymore.

Nope and Nope. I have only been called once and it was when my little girl was about 1 month old and she was being breast-fed at the time. Needless to say I didn't have to.

I have been called several times but have usually been not selected at all. I was selected to sit on three occasions but in each case when they heard I was an engineer the attorneys used one of their preemptions to get rid of me. Juries do not like engineers - they tend to be too logical and put the evidence in order and that usually screws up the outcome in the attorneys' minds.

These are the reasons to NOT commit a crime. Just like the comment above that some juror was put on the jury because he did not want to be. How would you like to be the defendant in that trial?

We need a better system in order to be fair to the criminals - however, I feel that if anyone commits a crime AND we already know they are guilty, trials should be waived and the criminal should get the max sentence - period.

Crime is more of an issue in this country than in any other. We have to do something about that. Soft sentences and lack of serious punishment is prevalent and is not the way to deter crime.

Yes, I have but it was some petty little thing about a city jail cell having to need a new paint job because the prisonor supposedly wrote and scratched on the walls. It lasted all of 3 hrs. including deliberations which actually lasted 5 minutes at the most. The city spent more than the $50 it would take to repaint the stupid cell on the trial of a kid who they obviously didn't have any evidence on. I would like to serve on a bigger and better trial. I Love the law. It facinates me.

Hi All,thanks for the comments.Its not that I didnt want to serve as any good citzen would.I have served on a simple highway /land trial.I was called to a murder trial but luckly did not have to serve as a jury and stay at a hotel,etc.I had to pack my bags and bring them when they selected just incase and it took a few days for them to select.My problem with it is a days good wages gone(they dont pay what I need to live)plus I have elderly parents to tend to.I hope I want get called as grand jury court comes around this time.I am interested in fair justice also .I have alot of different views about the topic,its good to here others.

Yup I get called for Jury duty all the time and have served on a Jury 4 times. I like it, I could do it as a profession! LOL

No, I've never been called for jury duty, and if I did, I never made it for some reason. I have this faraway memory that that was the case! I don't think I would like to serve on jury duty - I think I might vomit constantly! Therefore, I hope I never do get called! ;-)

I've been called up, but I was first a homemaker then a single mom. Now I'm married and no longer the sole breadwinner, so next time I gotta go do my duty! Honestly it's so little to ask for the freedoms we enjoy. It may be a temporary inconvenience, but it's not so bad. Dh had to go recently and he showed up, they sent him straight home at the door, and he had a SWEET day off, excused. :)

I get the notice every 8-9 months.
I have served and feel I have done
my duty and it is someone else's turn!

Once I was called and while waiting in the hall I peeked in the window and saw a girl that I had hired as our company receptionist and worked directly under me and then it hit me. I knew she wasn't at work because we had talked about where she would be. Without thinking I said outloud 'hey, that's ....... she's having a custody battle with her no good ex-husband who did this and that and ...... ' and so on.
Fortunately for me at the very last second they came to an agreement and we were dismissed but I almost got in big trouble for telling everyone one of the prospective jurors the whole case in a very decidedly biased point of view.
No more jury duty for me.

I've only been called once, and was excused from the jury they were putting together so that ended up feeling like a major pain and a waste of time. However, I do feel it's important and would go again if called and able.

I have been called a few times but never picked to go on one.

I have never been on a jury and I was only called to serve once. I sat in the jury room and never even made it into a courtroom for a potential selection. I wouldn't want to be on a long case, but I think it would be fun to serve for a day just to see the process first hand.

I got a notice, but at the time was in the hospital. So I was medicaly excused.

Believe it or not I have never been called to jury duty! Probably because for 8 years I was a town judge! I would love to serve on a jury!

I have served on a jury and done jury duty a few times until I was permanently disqualified due to disability.
