My husband is not the most romantic person I know but he came through for me on our anniversary. I expected flowers and a card and received a very special present. This one actually took some thought and planning so I really was shocked. Since it was our 20th anniversary Mike wanted to give me something special. He did a little research and discovered that the gem that represents the 20th anniversary is an emerald.
The emerald is thought to preserve love. It is said to have energy that helps improve relationships and encourage domestic bliss. It is suppose to help couples get through difficult situations that often ruin a relationship. When someone gives the gift of an emerald with the motive of pure love then the stone can bring the two lovers closer together. It is also believed that this gem can have a tranquilizing effect for a troubled mind.
I do not know how much of the above will hold true but I do know that this is one gift I will always treasure. Michael outdid himself this time. My gift to him was not as fancy but I hope it meant something to him. When we married we could not afford a photographer and had family members do the honors of taking pictures for us. One picture was very nice and we placed it on our wall. During a very low point in our relationship I threw the picture at him and said it was meaningless. The frame broke and the picture was damaged. Our youngest daughter made a paper frame for it and hung it on the wall. We left it there for over five years. It was a painful reminder that our marriage was far from perfect. I had the photo digitally restored and reprinted. I had wanted to buy a special frame but did not find one I liked in time. I think we will look for a frame together. After 20 years it seems my husband and I were thinking along the same wave length, both of us choosing a gift that represents the healing of a somewhat rocky relationship.

Sounds pretty sentimental and devoted to present such a gem. I know you two will make it again. My wife and I got a little rocky around 20, but then it worked itself out.
