Unplugging electronics when not in use adds up quick. If it's an alarm clock, a coffee pot...really anything with a light on it, while it doesn't consume energy like a vaccuum or a hair dryer that light is going to be on 24/7 and that's really just an unnecessary use of electricity.
Not trying to be real negative or anything but the way I got myself into the habit of unplugging everything is thinking that it would be one less thing that could possibly catch fire. While there are some things that you can't help, the refrigerator, for example, the other items just take a week or so and you'll get used to unplugging them automatically. The same way you would turn off a light when leaving a room.
By unplugging all the unnecessary items I probably, on average, save about $10 a month on my electric bill. It's well worth giving it a shot.
I must also add.....the energy saving light bulbs def. help even though they are a little more expensive and....DID YOU KNOW.....it requires more energy to shut down and restart your computer once a day than it does to just leave it in sleep mode for 24 hours???!!!!!
