One of my favorite songs, way back when, had to do with a child asking about unfamiliar animals and trying to compare them something recognizable. The song went on and on with the child describing various animals and Daddy setting the record straight. For example, a penguin was a bird wearing a tuxedo, a leopard was a cat in polka-dots and so on. The song was written in 1948, by Zell and Kreeb. I also heard it on Captain Kangaroo, with Mr. Green Jeans substituting "Captain" for "Daddy."

My favorite verse was the one about the horse wearing striped pajamas, which was then identified as a zebra. I loved zebras...still do. The very first stuffed animal I ever owned was a zebra. I won him in an appearance on the New Orleans version of Bozo the Clown, by saying a tongue-twister better than any of the other kids on the show that day.
There was a zebra on the carousel at City Park, and a trip to Audubon Park Zoo always had to include a visit to the zebras.
Because of all these and other wonderful zebra memories, I've started this group. I hope you'll share your stories and memories, art and photos of the Horse in Striped Pajamas.
