Last night I could not sleep, so I ended up watching the series about sex slaves in America on MSNBC. I was already paranoid when it comes to the safety of my children, but this series can really make any parent paranoid.
You can find some of the clips and articles from the series here:
I can highly recommend this series to any parent, as I am as strong believer that knowledge is power. The series usually air at 9 - 10 pm EST.
Have you watched any of the sex slave series?
Are you worried about your children?
If you have teenage daughters, are you doing anything special to teach them about safety?

We not only need to watch out for our teenaged daughters, but our teenaged SONS too, so that they don't grow up thinking treating women with disrespect.
There are people out there that would LOVE to harm our children.....
Bridget, I am like you, and although I try to give my kids space, it is really difficult when we live in the city. When my dad was here, he would let Roshane ride his bike around the block by himself....it made me terrified....and no Roshane has not done so after my dad left. I see these little kids Roshane's age walk home from school by themselves, and I know I could never let my kids do this as long as we live in the city.
Melissa, unfortunately I don't think that is enough any more. When I think back on my own teenage years, I sure put myself in danger too many times, and my mother was a leader of a daycare and the president of the school board.
It's sad.
There are a few movies I have seen about the issue, foreign and not, and one just came out not to long ago on the big screen.....trade or traffic or something like that.
I'm amazed at how many people let their small children go places without them, etc. When we first moved here, another person in town asked me to babysit her child for a short amount of time while she ran the older child to the doctor, 25 miles away. I did take care of her child, especially since it was obvious that the other one was really sick, but I was completely shocked that she would even ask someone she had only seen in passing. I didn't know her or her husband AT ALL, and neither does my husband. Can you imagine asking basically a complete stranger to take care of one of your children? All based on just the fact that she had kids of her own? People are crazy.
It's always good to know some defense and such; so much scary stuff out there.
