stay at home moms / working moms???

Hello I was watching a show today that had debates over weather a mom should stay home or work out of the house.

One of the ladies thought stay at home moms were plum lazy. the other thought staying home was great!

I personally think HIGHLY of both!!! WHY

1. stay at home moms never get a day off! They work 24/7.

2. stay at home moms are always cooking and cleaning and bathing and wiping this or that!

3.  stay at home moms have a hard time emotionally because they want a break and its very hard to get one!

 

working moms

1. They get up early and get everyone ready for the day and go to work.

2. Then get home and fix dinner and clean up and get ready for the next day.

3. They have emotional problems at work and in their own homes because they don't get to stay home all day with their kids.

I do think we probably work as hard as each other! Many ask well what do they do all day?

Well I fix breakfast.. then clean up after that. I pick up the house a little while the kids are playing and watching cartoons. I start some laundry. Watch maybe 30 minutes of tv.. if I am lucky! Then I start lunch and clean up after that.. and do some more laundry.. while kids are napping I try to nap too or I do some cleaning such as dusting.. things that are harder to do while chasing kids! Then I start dinenr.. clean up after that.. give baths.. playtime again and pick up toys then its bedtime! So we have just as a busy day as working moms! Its not a bowl of ice cream staying home and "doing nothing" .  And I know It would be hard getting up going to work then coming home and doing the evening job! None of it is easy!! I do know that!

SO What Are Your Views????

Amen, Sister! I am a stay at home Mom and sometimes I work outside the home, I never stop either way, but my house totally falls apart when I work outside the home, and we never have any time with each other when I work. And my husband is an over the road truck driver, so I am also a single Mom, but with a check. How do working Moms do it, and how do single Moms do it? I respect them both so very much, and I am ever so grateful to be able to stay at home when I can.

I am a stay home grandmom, have custody of gbaby, yet, I have no choice, due to my illness, I say i work for what I can do, and I dont even get help except from hubby and gbaby mom sometime, more lately because of my illness, we are busy 30 hour a day and 8 days a week,,, that how I feel sometimes

I have been a Stay At Home Mom for over 25 years and of course it has its pros and cons. Every job does. Just because I'm not punching a timecard 8 hours a day does not mean I'm not working! I work as hard as any woman, maybe even harder. I believe a woman who gives up a career to stay home and raise a family has chosen the most rewarding job in the world! Trust me my husband and my kids wouldn't have it any other way. Maybe some people don't respect women like me, but my family does and that is all that counts in my book!

I've been both a working mom and a stay at home mom. When I was working, I worked 80 + hours a week at my business, then had to make dinner, lunches, household chores, etc. I recently sold my business (in May) to be a SAHM and I actually think I have LESS free time now.

I'm not the kind of mom who plants her kid in front of the tv while she reads a magazine. I decided to stay home because I wanted my son to have the benefit of some one on one attention and help him learn faster. So, I actually interact with him and teach him new things all day. If we watch a tv show, we watch it together and I ask him questions about it. So, the only free time I have is when he naps. That's when I do my cleaning, or if I'm caught up, go online and Gather a little.

I'm a SAHM myself. :) I think you've done a good job of outlining the work that we ALL do as mothers, though. I think the important thing is how happy and well-adjusted the kids are, and how happy WE are as moms - SAHM or WOHM.

I think both are respectable in their own right. The only difference IMO is that a Stay at home mom gets paid less cash than a working outside of the home mom BUT unless you have a very high paying job, you will probably come out about even after you factor in Daycare costs.

Personally, I'm a stay at home mother AND I work online for spare cash. So I guess I do a bit of both.

SAHM here as well, I am going to be schooling my oldest at home this fall, on top of daily house chores. ha! I don't have TIME to work an outside job!

I love being at home with the children. The pay is low in the world's eyes, but out of this world in my eyes. I am making a lifelong and eternal investment in my four children. I don't have to miss a first step, tooth, smile, boo boo, etc. And I keep hubby happy because there is no competition from co-workers (and I completely trust him!)
Being a homemaker is a stressful job, but well worth it, far beyond getting paid to do someone else's job, IMO.

I think any mother who is doing the best she can and not neglecting or abusing her children is worthy of respect whether she stays at home or goes to work. I've done both and neither is a cakewalk.

I don't know why women put each other down for either choice.

I was a working mom until last year when my hubby died. It was more economical to stay home with the kids. I think both are just as hard as the other, now me being a SHAM. The stresses are just very different. Now I have a really hard time getting a break. I do love being home with the kids, but I do sometimes miss the interaction at work. I wouldnt trade my life now for anything. I've always wanted to finish college and I am now a part time college student.

I'm a SAHM too. I just wouldn't trust ANYONE else with MY kids. I know them, what they need, and how to handle them, and I love them. I can do more than any daycare provider could or would. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

SAHM or employed mom, doesn't matter.
All moms are working moms.
Just be sure to be a loving mom.

oh, you forgot SO MUCH out of your day! After all, you're a SAHM, which means people think you have TIME on your hands! So suddenly, you have to do the grocery shopping, take the car in for the oil change, pick up this, return that, deliver whatever to someone's house, or pick up whatever from someone's house. Then there are playgroups, trips to the park that take an HOUR of planning and preparation (Thomas shoes? Special sippy? Only the Honey Maid snacks? Check, check, check!), only to be delayed by the exploding diaper and subsequent outfit change that causes a meltdown because now he's not in his favorite Bob the Builder T-shirt....

And then the hubby comes home and instead of saying "Why don't you sit down and I'll take the kids outside for 20 minutes", he says "dinner's not ready yet? What have you been doing all day!". Proceed to take 5 Advil for the migrane that results from your brain working super-overtime suppressing the overwhelming urge to choke the crap out of him. Besides, you don't have time, the baby's crying again! :-D

I totally agree with you. I have been both a stay at home mom and a working mom and I think both roles are just as hard. When you stay at home you are on your own turf and you can be a little more flexible with you and you kids schedules, but I don't think many people realize that when you are a stay at home mom you take on so many more little responsibilies.

Being a parent is hard and we all need to support each other, whether we choose to work or stay home. Neither is better or worse and each family has to decide what works for them. I'm currently a SAHM but I have also worked full-time and I find parenting to be the hardest job, no matter whether one is balancing work or being home full-time. Each option has its challenges and rewards. Once mothers start judging each other and stop being supportive and understanding, then problems start...so let's work together.

I will be a stay at home mother and I'm going to enjoy every single minute of it! Why would I want to work and miss out on anything that my child does? Plus I can make sure he or she is raised the way I want them raised and I don't trust anybody to raise my child but me. People are just plain crazy these days! I do hope that once my child is no longer an infant I can watch another kid so I can make some extra cash that way, but otherwise I'm staying home. And I could care less if somebody thought I was lazy!!!
