My daughter really really wants to be Cyberschooled. Does anyone out there have any experience with this or know anyone that has tried it? Please share...thanks in advance...
I don't have any advice but I did see a little news spot that said kids in "cyberschool" in the rural areas tested better than children in urban areas. I'm sure you could find the news cast somewhere. Sorry I didn't pay that much attention to it, but there are a lot of studies out there.
I'm a teacher in the public school system in Massachusetts, and the one thing I would think about is "socialization". I think being in a group setting can be hard, but there are so many moments of learning that involve other people and being part of a group. School is about both academics and learning to be with others, in my opinion. Hope this helps ...
We will probably look into this for the higher grades. My kids both love to use the computer and it would take a lot of the lesson planning work off of me. I am hoping that we can pick and choose what subjects we would like to do. If that is not an option I'll probably continue to homeschool the hard way. Academic freedom is important to us.
Thanks all for your input. I appreciate it. My daughter is not very social as it is. I think I will let her try it for a semester and see how it goes. She is going into 11th grade and it seems that I will have a lot more input/insight into her schooling if she cyberschools. Thanks again.
I think it is a viable possiblity for the education, but I am always concerned about socialization. Have you considered outside activities for her and how that can happen?
She is going to get a job that involves working with people and she will have some time with her friends. She is even considering volunteering at some animal shelters or nursing homes. That should help with the social skills. We shall see. :)
Yours is the bestest 17 year old daugher. I have the bestest 22 year old daughter who begins teaching exceptional handicapped children in less than two weeks. At first she was very excited, after reading the children's IEP's and learining all the medical problem she has to watch out for she is very nervous. I'm sure she will do great!
