Sunlight gives way to shadows.
They dance in whimsical delight
as branches flutter on a breeze.
Smells of freshly mown grass
assail my senses.
A child's laughter rings through the air.
Someone's laundry is on the line,
whipping in the wind.
I turn my face to capture the sun.
Warmth envelopes me.
Somewhere inside a dismal day awaits,
calling for me to come inside
and bask in dusty corners,
listening to venom fly.
I lie down under a giant oak
watching the sky paint pictures
in shades of blue and white.
I wonder what it feels like
to fly.

Ah, those that wonder that last line are, to a degree, flying already. Pity the ones who never ask the question.
Very good poem, Cheryl. It deals with many things and opens many questions.
very nice - memory only begets more memory - from yours to mine ...
wow, loved it. It totally took me to a place right under that oak... nice poem.
Cheryl, a beautiful day. (or a beautiful daydream?) I could feel it, wishing I was in that day. Beauty Cheryl!

I have been away from my computer except for some brief visits for the last month or so. It is great to get back to reading your poems again. Another great job!
Cheryl, this is a wonderful poem. I'm so glad you chose it as your best, because now I'm wondering what is wonderful and waiting for me in the rest of your work.:) I have a feeling you're not giving yourself enough credit.....
Mandy
I enjoyed reading this as I empathized with the dreamer.
