Prayer of a Stray

there are 10k people born each day in the usa and there are 70k puppies and kittens born each day in the usa. you do the math and there will never be enough good homes. have you pets spayed or neutered please.

I feel sorry for the strays, and people should have the pets neutered, but as I am sure you do, I feel sorrier for the strays that are among the 10k people born each day in the USA.

Having worked in research and shelters,the math hasnt gotten any better.People of the frame of mind that "just one litter wont hurt,and I want my kids to experience the miracle of birth";then there are those that see dollar signs attached to purebred puppies,thus puppie mills.
In this age of information,to have an adult(?) not realize the heat cycle of an animal,especially thier first one,and turn the animal out or dump it because it is now pregnant,makes me sssoooo irate!!!
With the downfall of a society comes the irresponsibility towards the children,animals and indigent.Maybe if more people were made to go to kill shelters and help put these sweet innocent souls down,they might have second thoughts about "just one litter" or 'arent kittens so cute?" If they had to tie a monkey to a table and look into its eyes as they do research on it?If they had to draw blood from a rabbits ear for thier precious make-up research,only to have that rabbit commit suicide because that rabbit's only knowledge of a life was that daily research?
On top of all this ,the math gets worse.The children of today rely on education by the adults that got us in this situation.GOD help us that there are children out there who question our path and will mature to change that path and make things better.

I second that request, Carol. I make it a point to tell people who have not done so that they are negligent. Doesnt make a lot of friends, but who cares? Too many unwanted puppies and kittens. If you cant take responsiblilty for your pet then you should not be permitted to have one, period! Good thought, Cindy. Everyone should have to visit a shelter and see what its like.

I felt that way too Brenda. I have a new foster beagle arriving tomorrow. she is 2 yrs old and her name I think is brandy. Fostering a pet really helps give them a chance at a new life in forever home. Youre welcome Larry. Something Jesus said was what you do for the least of my children you do for me. I think that goes further than just fellow humans. If you know someone who cant afford spaying or neutering try to get a small group together sell crafts or cookies or whatever and try to help one a month. Sounds like a small start I know but it really adds up. Many communities have assistance and a few phone calls and a bit of time can get the job done. When you call someone and they dont provide the service ask if they might know someone who does know someone. We all have computers network it works. But for me what I can afford is to foster a beagle from time to time So far this year I have fostered 6 and they all went to forever homes. I dont know what each of us can do. But I think we all need to find that one thing and do what we can.

how about field trips with honesty to local shelters Steve Irwin used to say its hard to kill something you have learned to love and each of these unwanted animals has a face. If not to the shelters get someone to come and talk to the classes.

Carol when I try to talk to some of the folks who live in my area makes me believe that spaying and neutering should be extended to some 2 legged species.

This made me tear up - really it did.
I just posted an article yesterday about dead kittens my husband saw at our local shelter.
We spay & neuter our pets....in fact, as soon as they are of age to do so. We have 1 pure bred dog(papers), 1 mixed-breed mutt & 1 other pure bred dog (no papers). We love them all....2 of them were rescued, 1 from stupid people that don't know how to spay their dogs, the other from a shelter.
We love them all, and wish we could rescue more, but we know our limits.

everyone thinks they should toss Mike Vick in prison forever and what he did was very wrong but there are so many puppies that are born and will never see their first birthday. There is all kind of animal abuse. Not getting a pet spayed or neutered and allowing them to reproduce is wrong with only a few exceptions.
