How I wish I could plunge
into your abyss,
shelter you from your demons,
lighten up the darkness
in the tunnel
which you fall;
But I'm blinded,
I can't see you.
The demons have a shield;
They won't let me pierce the darkness
that steals you away.
I can't find you.
I can't reach you,
but I love you;
I can't lose you.
I want to scream and shake you,
slap you, make you feel,
but your eyes are dead and listless;
I'm drowning in my tears.
I remember your smile, your laughter;
Was it so long ago?
Life's a cruel joke sometimes, I know;
But you have to hold on!
The pain will pass!
The darkness will leave!
The sun will shine again.
Reach up;
Grab my hand;
Feel the light
for the darkness
cannot keep you.
Let my love shelter you;
Cuddle into me.
I'm here to stay,
and I curse the darkness
as I spit on the demons
who try to steal you away.
Feel the light embrace you;
Feel the warmth inside;
Feel your heart beat next to mine.
You're alive!
You're alive...

Michelle....Yes, I do agree with you that we can be a moral support, and that the person must be receptive to help and to change. It sure is a helpless and horrible feeling, though...to watch someone you love suffer. That is one reason this poem speaks of wanting to plunge into the other person's despair. There is such a need to understand it...where it comes from. Its so hard to see when you are not in that place yourself. Frustrating, isn't it? Thank you for your comment.....:)
