President Obama and Local Politics

I believe everyone has already agreed that is so. I spoke out against his comments immediately after he made them. It is nice to see he is human, and can make mistakes, but what was said shouldn't have been. He admitted it in the National press, made amends to the Cambridge Police, and - I thought - all involved were moving on. Can you?

Well I can post anything I wish,as long as It does not violate Gathers terms. If I dont want to move on, Just as in the case of Obama, it is nobody's buisness.

Do you think the Far Left can move on with hatred of Sarah Palin. Plus if George W. had made a similar comment, nobody would have moved on .

For the record, I don't believe the Cambridge police would liked to be called Far Left any more than Stupid.

About the press conference - I only wish that past leaders had acted as honorably when they made even worse gaffs. President Obama is the first in my memory to apologize and try to make amends.

I was not calling the Cambridge police The Far Left. I directed that to those who follow Obama blindly. You came on here all high and mighty, by stating this was resolved and to move on. You came across with the attitude like, How I dare you to post this. Just letting you know I can talk about the next 20 years, just like the Far Left still talk about Cheney and Quayle.

Its funny when a Republicam messes up they are stupid. Yet when a Democrat does they are human.

I am also amazed that a man was bigger than life itself, before the election, is now a mere human like Quayle, Cheney , Palin,and the Bush.

On a completely different note, the stupidest, most hubris filled statement I've heard from a politician was Gore's claim to have invented the internet. No I haven't forgotten it and yes - I still bring it up! We both have the right to endlessly remind people how petty we can be.

Sorry it doesn't fit your theory that Obama supporters only remember the GOPs mistakes, not the Dems. If you work hard enough you might find a way to bend it around until you think you are right, regardless of the facts. But to what end? Really, what does anyone care? I didn't see or hear his remarks. But, I only think he spoke out, strictly because of the race issue. Even so, it was a bad move on his part and he should have just said, no comment.

You are correct, Terry M. Obama had no business poking his nose into a local government issue. It wasn't a racist thing until HE made it one. Guess he just couldn't leave the racist issue alone. And his friend provided that issue for him. I hope Sgt Crowley does sue that pompous so-called racist Harvard Professor.

What amazes people are wanting to give him a free pass and move on. The people who want to forget this. still have not forgotten Bush 41's, "Read My Lips Speech," made over 20 years.

Terry, I agree that it wasn't President Obama's place to say or do anything in this case. BUT....President Obama did sincerely regret making that statement. We are admonished to forgive and forget and it's in the scriptures. I always strive to forgive and forget as that is the right thing to do in our Creator's eyes.

Obama herd his friend was arrested and spoke assuming Race was involved without knowing one thing about the case. He has since invited both the cop and the friend to have a beer with him. He was wrong, He knows it, But he will not apologize because his massive ego will not permit it. Gates brought the arrest on himself by his own actions. He is now using it noteriety.

It isn't just that but the person in question is a personal friend of Obama's and the press knew Gates was a friend of his, of course they asked the president about a spitfire issue like racial profiling. I think Obama should have offered sympathy for what his friend was going through, but otherwise decline to answer questions from the press on a local matter.

I think all of us would speak out about a perceived injustice to a friend.

I wonder if Bush, or any Republican, had used the term precieved, would they have gotten a free pass with Obama supporters.

It went beyond taking up for a friend. Regardless Obama is everyones President, and should stay out of local matters.

Example Bush Sr's "Read my lips speech" that was made in 1988. We still hear about it.

Yet Obama made a VERY STUPID comment, and the media does not want to talk about it. They still want to talk about the 1988 "Read My Lips" speech.

On the 911 call, race wasnt even mentioned.... The lady said, he may be hispanic.... Gates , may of treated a black cop alot nicer... SO , why isnt the media saying this about Gates.. First of all, bo knew the question was coming. He was prepared to answer.

The professor is his close friend. They are both racist.

The professor is, according to an AP report, making a project on 'racial' stuff, including 'racial profiling' and he has said that this incident will be a part of that 'larger project' and that he is making a 'documentary on this latest incident.'

I believe that the professor instigated the whole thing, hoping the police would be called, he could (and did) refuse for a time to provide an id...and then didn't give his government issued id, but a Harvard id which is not the same thing as a driver's license, passport, etc. The professor made it racial because he was in the middle of a project on race and he could have some more 'material' to add. As well as get some pr for his project.

the president shouldn't have gotten involved, but he knew exactly what he was doing when he did it and he is not sorry.

If the police officer can sue, I say go for it and I hope he wins.

I agree, Terry. A simple misunderstanding was blown to enormous proportions by the president's careless comment.

I am concerned about the consequences of this incident. Will police be reluctant to respond to 911 calls in the future? Will police be forced to behave in a politically correct manner instead of following established procedure and be killed because of it?

I still believe that, had Gates been white, this would never have made the news...not even on the local level.

Well, it is days later and the entire thing still rages on like a fresh case of herpes. Now the 911 caller is "speaking out". The beef seems to be that because she referred to him as a "black" man, she is a racist. (Never mind that it was an accurate description and a vital piece of info in a situation where gun fire might be exchanged). It turns out that she referred to him as "hispanic" which is, although inaccurate, apparently not racist!! BTW, the press was very careful to point out that she was "First generation Portugese".
As a WHITE GUY who's ancesters FOUNDED THIS COUNTRY, and who has suffered reverse racism and sexism most of his adult life, I'm getting sick of the whole craybaby bunch of them.

The entire lot needs to toughen up and get on with it. Racism will always exist in some residual form or another. Let's call it good enough and GET OVER IT.

Imagine someone who uses the term, "I should have recalibrated my words' sitting down to drinking beer. He and Prof Gates will be intellecutal buddies, hope the Sgt. shows them what real, everday people are like. Another lesson learned, perhaps?

Partly because we are reminded of them so often.

I think that if someone asked for forgiveness, seemed contrite, and apologized, he should be forgiven. I don't remember anyone, Republican or Democrat doing that before Obama.

You have totally turned around what has been said. The point is that your kind want to remember every mistake made by a Republicans. Yet when Obama says something very stupid, we get a Moving On lecture. Seems you are not Moving On.intil today the last comment on this post was made July 30th.
