Farewell to Jack Kemp

I just found out that Jack Kemp passed away this past weekend. He was a man who was successful as an athlete and a statesman. Mr. Kemp was a great conservative, and a champion of capitalism. We need more men like him on Capital Hill today.

Jack Kemp served in Congress from 1971 to 1989, followed by four years as HUD Secretary under the elder Bush. Before politics, he played professional football for the Pittsburg Steelers, Calgary Stampeders, San Diego Chargers and the Buffalo Bills.

In 1988, Kemp had an unsuccessful bid for the White House, and was Bob Dole's running mate in 1996. Let us also remember that he served our country from 1958 to 1962 as a Private in the Army Reserves. A true partiot has left us.I will never forget him.

Great farewell, Terry! Yes, Jack Kemp was one really great American.....he got along with anyone and everyone, whether Republican, Democrat, or Independent........I was so shocked to hear he had died, as I was unaware that he was ill with cancer.

This is a wonderful tribute, Terry. Sometimes it gets discouraging that we have so few admirable statesmen. This is a good reminder.

Helluva player! Took a school NO ONE had ever heard of (and it hasn't been heard from since) to the Rose Bowl, thus proving the importance of a quarterback. As he once put it, "I took my little team of poets and engineers to the biggest game in the country." He is also the reason the NFL has a "no-hurdling" rule. Watching a franchise-making NFL quarterback racing down the field, hurdling tacklers and other players on the turf while they grabbed at his legs nearly gave the NFL Commissioner a coronary.

I knew most of this but Chuck's info was new...

The Repubs have guys like him but they won't listen to them. You all better start beating on your party to wake up and push people like him forward...
