I didn’t want to read a story that opens with its characters in Jupiter, Florida, where I had once lived. I felt it would bring back too many memories, but slowly I got into this tender love story.
Even though this is the author’s first novel, she keeps the reader interested. Marie Pinschmidt has a way of making the reader see through her eyes.
She keeps you guessing at Maggie’s and Brad’s meeting while on vacation in Jupiter, Florida. Will they get together after their vacation? Will Brad, a doctor from Virginia go back to his fiancé who waits for him? Will Maggie go back to Ohio, to her medical office job, or will she follow her passion for painting?
Not only does Marie Pinschmidt take you on a history lesson of New Orleans, but as a true artist she paints a picture of you walking the city’s streets, listening to Jazz, dining on Jambalaya, or watching the Mardi Gras parade.
The following excerpt shows the author’s writing ability: “She was confident she could earn a living by painting, teaching, and holding workshops. There were ways to be happy and fulfilled without relying on a man. She refused to settle for second best just to fulfill the expectations of society.”
If you like love stories, with twists and turns that keep you guessing, ‘Man on the Balcony’ is for you.
