Book Review: You Suck: A Love Story

This isn't so much a book review as it is an audiobook review. I had a bunch of errands and projects that I was working on today, being my day off and all so I decided I would listen to it straight through eight hours later I give you this.

I have only just recently stumbled upon the works of Christopher Moore. I loved his third book Bloodsucking Fiends. And I only thought it would be only natural to go onto the sequel, You Suck. I was laughing hysterically through a good chunk of this book. Which I am sure was quite a site to the onlookers as I was walking through the supermarket.

Outside of being really funny I have to hand it to Christopher Moore for taking on this book. As you may or may not know there was about 10 years or so since Mr. Moore wrote Bloodsucking Fiend and the release of You Suck. A lot happened in L.A. particularly the SOMA area in those ten years. SOMA was the center of the whole dot com explosion, and it's inevitable fall. The culture of the area evolved. Ten years of change and this book takes place the next day after Bloodsucking Fiend leaves off. He bridged both book very well, and all and all was fairly seamless.

The audiobook version was read by Susan Bennett. Her lively reading breathed even more life into a new character to the story, Abby Normal, an extremely energetic and mouthy goth chick.

All and all, I would highly recommend this book to anyone that like dark comedy, or if you are in anyway connected to goth culture. So go out, read it, listen to it, whatever. It was great.
