If I don't like a book, I don't read another by the same author--usually. But I read Oblivion by Peter Abrahams even though I had disliked another of his books, The Fan. It was a good decision.
The Fan, which I couldn't finish, was about some egotistical baseball player. Nothing happened for too long, so I put it down and never picked it up again.
But suspense begins in the first chapter of Oblivion, about a PI who begins to look into a missing-person case, becomes afflicted with brain cancer so forgets everything about that case, and reinvestigates it when he is a much weaker man. I left a party early so I could go home and finish that book, i.e., it was lots better than The Fan.

I think you should go back to "The Fan" for a second try and get into it a little more. It's a great story. I couldn't put it down once I got going.
I've heard great things about "The Fan" as well. Even though I am not into baseball, I decided to give it a go (as you well know). It sounds like "Oblivion" would be a great read.
When you read THE FAN, I wish you'd post how you liked it. It'd be interesting to see if you disagree with me and why.
