ZAP! Now Here's a Really Sensible "Green" Car

I discovered this car as I was driving through the Monroe Park campus of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, yesterday.

ZAP stands for Zero Air Pollution®.

There are several models of ZAP cars available, as well as scooters, and other products. This particular one is the Xebra (pronounced "zebra").

I would love to drive a car like this, but I'd feel a lot safer doing so if these were the majority of vehicles on the road. I'd be scared driving this at high speeds surrounded by big SUVs.

Although... Zero air pollution is doubtable. Maybe the vehicle itself is, but how is it manufactured?

Really interesting! I am so glad you shared this. I took a few minutes to check out the website. I am always interested in alternatives. I would like to find out more about the manufacturing of course, but was interested in seeing the sticker price. I was quite surprised that a vehicle that only seats 2.5 people costs $49,000. It is going to be a long road to convince consumers that bigger is no longer better. I think my next purchase will be as expected, the Volkswagen Rabbit starting at $14,500.

I wish our family could have a more enviroment friendly vehicle but we need at min. 7 seater! And with 7 seats (like our Windstar) we simply cannot have anyone ride with us, like my sister-in-law. There's no free seats!

oh that is too cute!!!!
I'd love to have a green car but I am worried about safety of driving such a small thing in the jungle of SUVs that is out there. I have trouble seeing around them in my Altima as it is!

Does it only have three wheels?? Reminds me of the Mr. Bean car with three wheels that fell over all the darned time. lol

Besides, this car wouldn't hold me, hubby, four kids, a dog and a 20 ft. canoe... *snort*

I'm another person adding a "That's cool !!" comment.

I, also, would feel pretty intimidated trying to drive it on most roads in America. It would be great for short little round the town trips, but I'd be leery of driving it on a major road or highway.

I rented a little car like this once in FL just to drive around the island we were on. It was a lot of fun. I must say, however, I didn't feel awfully safe in it!

We are all afraid to take risks with new technology, but I can encourage anyone willing to do this by remarking on our family experience. Five years ago our daughter bought a Prius (hybrid). When she was rear-ended on the freeway in California recently, the car was still worth almost as much as she had paid for it originally.

So, be a ground-breaker!

Cute car but I'm 5'10" and would feel like I'm sitting on the road. Plus, I'm poor white trash and for $45,000, I could buy a trailer.
If they ever make an affordable hybrid, I'm there.

I like the idea of electric cars, I'm still waiting for one I can afford.

Have you seen the "smart cars"? I saw a lot of them in Europe last year, and they are small and low cost to buy as well as operate.

I got a Prius a few months ago, mostly because of the green benefits but I have saved an awful lot on gas, too. I am getting about 54 mpg and it seats four comfortably (including my daughter's 6' 5" friend in the back seat!) and five for a quick ride when comfort isn't an issue. The sticker price is much better, too. I think hybrids are most likely to catch on and perhaps in years to come the totally electric car will "arrive".

Jimmie, my first though was, it's ugly, then I thought, it's expensive, and finally it isn't a family vehicle Then, if I had the $$, and it was painted one color, I might be tempted.
And finally, from the comments, I'd hope to find a used Prius.
