you're just getting gift cards? I know some people with 8000 points. Is there something I'm missing here? I cash in at 3125 and run to Home Depot. I just shopped yesterday. It's so much fun. Thanks to Gather, Home Depot, and friends.
Some people who are outside the US can't cash in on their gift cards so they just have ton of points accumulating.
Other than that I don't know why people hold their points. Unless they are hoping to make it to cash option one day and then all their points will be turned over to cash.
I know of some people that are saving for a large ticket item, like a washer or dryer and they don't want to have the giftcard around to be temped to us it now instead of saving it.
I think you're right Amanda - that seems like a smart thing to do - that way you can send out a gift card directly to someone you know for their birthday. Although, I wonder how long it takes to get to 8000 points - that sounds like so many. I only have a few hundred.
Well if they decide to go for the cash option later, then they have a nice amount banked for it. Otherwise, I'd see it as an easy savings route. Like Amanda said, it's less tempting to have the points sitting here, saving up for an item, than to have them in your hands to go splurge with.
Some people don't -need- the gift cards, or know what they want, so they hang on to them and wait until they know what they want- or in hopes of a new card type being offered.
I hang on to mine because I'll cash em all in for cash once I finally get around to sending my paperwork in. I know, I know! I really should do that. I'll find the paperwork tonight, and stuff it in my purse.
Cruise...or maybe money means nothing to them...or they are outside the U.S. I like round numbers...$100, $200, $300...OH! mad money that's mine, mine, mine! Wait! I work and earn at least 50% of our household income...hmmmmmmmmm NEW SHOES!
My points belong to other people. I've been waiting to hear from one person, who is holding up my passing over the points the the other people so they may get their GC.
The others have been very patient; so have I -- waiting, waiting, waiting for this person to get in contact. It's selfish, and unfair to the others, for one person to hold it up everything. I think I shall proceed, and when she decides to contact me, fine. She has solved one of my problems. What do you think, Carol?
Some people like to wait until Christmas and then get the gift cards to make the holiday extra special. I cash out the second I get enough points because I know one Gatherer who had his gift card stolen out of the mail (but Gather was kind enough to replace it for him) and because even though I think Gather is on solid ground, I just prefer not to risk logging in one day and the gift cards being gone or Gather closed for business.
I would like to know if anyone else stopped getting e mails from people they were before they had the email down for 4 days. Since they started back up with the email I don't get any email from people I was before they were down. I get 4 to 11 or more of the same email, getting some back I already commented on too.
Also don't some people give to charity?? Maybe they are waiting til it is a significant amount first. My self on the oetherhand acshed in for my $25 gf as soon as I hit the point amount. I think i'll do the same thing next month. I like the thought of a free cd every month at Borders!

And I never get my notifications anymore - never really did except for maybe the first couple weeks I was on. Then every once in a great while, one pops through. But for the most part have to go to my articles and images and sift through looking for new comments. I don't have that kind of time. I've complained and written to Gather, I even think I tried the great and wonderful sitewizard one time. All to no avail. I do not get notifications. *sigh*
It sounds like there are many reasons people don't cash in their points. I haven't found the way or the time to earn over 3,000 points per month. For awhile I chased the points now I participate and celebrate when I have enough to cash in for at least a $25 gift card which I use for gifts.
Well, I just changed over to the cash option, so I'm going to see how that works. I just don't want to feel compelled to be on here all the time and neglect other things I should be doing and people I should be seeing... I have a tendency to do that anyway! ;-D
Yeah, I don't understand why you would hold on to points. I know once I reach my goal, I redeem my points for whatever GC I want and start all over again. The only reason I can see for not redeeming the points is if you are saving up for one of the more expensive things like the cruise, but to me saving up that many points for just $500 off a cruise is just not worth it to me.
I have 6,102 Gather Points™. I don't "cash out" because that really doesn't make for enough cash to really make it worth the effort. However, 6,250 Gather Points™ is enough for $100 PayPal. That might be good ... almost there.
