I've been meaning to do this photo essay for a while now... Back in January my middle son who is in first grade won an award and was in an assembly at school (you can kind of watch him getting his award at the first video on my page). Five students per class were picked for an award. Some examples of awards are Best Improvement in Behavior, Reading, etc. My son won for overall academics. I was very proud.
The first few pictures aren't that great. My camera decides when it wants to take good and bad pictures. Even when I change the settings, it's the same results.
The ceremony:
The Principal. She's actually really nice and good at her job.
The blonde woman is his teacher
Another little boy getting an award in his class (my camera decided to stop working when I wanted a picture of my son getting it from his teacher).
My son standing with his certificate. He's the one smiling.
My son posing with his certificate with the other kids in his class that got one. He's the second boy between the girls.
After his class got awards, I got a shot of him sitting (of course it didn't turn out well :( )

My oldest son (3rd grader) was at the ceremony and I managed to get a shot of him too. He's the one centered in the picture below.

Afterwards, I got to take some pictures of my middle son against the wall in the cafeteria.

The Mom of another little girl who won an award had the kids pose together so she could take a picture too. Some of you may remember a few months ago a Mom was upset with my son for making some papers from her daughters backpack fall on the ground. I apologized, had my son write her a letter and I thought it was settled but she still went to the teacher (the teacher told me that the little girl skipped Kindergarten and so the Mom might not be used to how kids are or something along those lines). A few other things about the situation were upsetting but I won't go into it more again because that is over with. We all get along now and talk civilly to each other (which we kind of had to, we're both on the Booster club and our kids go to the same church).
With the award, they also got a little keychain with the school name and it says "Our Kids are Great."
I thought this one was a litlte funny. The teacher was looking at me taking the picture and the kids were looking at the other Mom taking the picture.
The certificate:

Before we went home, I had him pose outside for a couple of pictures in the same place I had his older brother pose for pictures when my oldest son won an award for reading when he was in the same grade.

With his big brother:

Looking at the plaque at school. I do not remember what it says.

Picture with Mom taken by big brother:

I didn't want my oldest son to feel left out so I took a picture of us by the car upclose.

When we got home, I let them have a little bit of playtime in the yard.

A couple of weeks later, all the kids that won awards from the several classrooms got to go into the cafeteria for a special milk and cookie treat.
This isn't from the cermony but from that same week he was also the student of the week in class. The student of the week gets to bring in a few things, fill out and color a large paper on what they like and one small area of the room is devoted to them.
